  1. 5 trees in total, One rotten, one hollow, the rest should be ok. Will post pics tomorrow if you like...
  2. To be honest I haven't even bothered to get on my knees and have a close look yet...think it may be G pfeifferi. I'll have a good look tomorrow. As for the timber, I made a few calls...no one was interested...If anyone wants it you'd better contact me soon...I'll be firewood by the weekend.
  3. It will chip 12 inches, I just turn the feed roller speed down nice and slow. I've never put hedge clippings through it so wouldnt know about that. The BC1000 is a big machine for big jobs.
  4. Yes mate...have a look and see if you can 'name that tune in one' I was supprised as to the extent of the decay to be honest! The site is an area of land we manage for dean and chapter, opp. Worcester cathedral.
  5. Cheers dude, it was so hollow I even found an Arb in there!!!
  6. Yes, Yes and Yes! Buy it.....Best chipper I've ever used ( and we've had a few!) Its a beast to pull round all day, its heavy if you need to man-handle it anywhere...but BOY can it produce some chippings! Its speeded my jobs up no-end....we simply put everything through the chipper. No cutting or snedding before hand, if you can lift it and get it to catch on the feed-roller it'll eat anything!
  7. We cable-braced the hollow beech tree about 15 months ago (when it was alive) I wanted to save it as its one of 6 which all had a shared crown. Note the compartmentalisation in the wood and how far it goes!!
  8. Todays job, starting work on a group of Beech trees in Worcester. All the trees except one turned up their toes this summer.....
  9. I know its not your fault, and respect to you for posting the pics on here! Its the TO's fault, she should have been brave enough to go for a fell and re-plant. The only thing its worthy of now is perhaps being turned into a nice carving ?? I think trees deserve a dignified ending.....that in my opinion is not dignified.
  10. I'd fell the whole lot and re-plant....Poor old tree
  11. Just a thought...have the trees been subject to flooding (standing water for a long time) ? We have many trees that have suffered greatly in the last 12 months. They nearly all have Phytophthora now, including Beech, Lime, Chestnut and Monkey Puzzle!
  12. You could always pull 'PUWER' (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) out of your kit bag...Ref chainsaw. The regulations state that equipment should be suitable for the intended use.....should bug the hell out of your boss!! :laugh1:
  13. The best thing about that show was coming home (after i'd found the Discovery) and giving my 3 year old son his first Stihl chainsaw. The look on his face when he pulled the start cord was priceless! £12 and the best buy of the show
  14. Yes, I did ! The thing that threw me was the fork in the paths on the exit. I took the wrong one and was buggered from the start! There must have been 100's of Landrover Discoverys out there..lol
  15. ......the best of british you you guys!
  16. Cheers for the info guys. Off to the show tomorrow,so I'll do some more window shopping. I like the look of the Leo 15 @ £31k but in this day and age there isn't much money around (even in local authority!)
  17. Morning dude.... I've been here, just so busy. I also started cycling into work and its a bit hard to fit the old SLR into the saddle bag! I'll have to get a little one so I can keep it with me at all times (camera not a woman)
  18. Just had a demo today on a Hinowa Goldlift 14.7. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The lift was good (14m) and the reach was very good (7m) I’ve been looking at a Teupen which is considerably more expensive, (Goldlift is approx 24k, compared with £48k for the Teupen) Does anyone have any experience with Hinowa MEWPS ?? Feedback would be greatly appreciated !!
  19. Shall we all arrange to meet at a given location at a given time ?
  20. I'm near Worcester, was going to leave as early as poss as it can get very nasty North of Birmingham...
  21. I'll be there Friday, it would be nice to meet up with some fellow arbs' from here....??!!
  22. 10 years time....Jesus, I'll be 48, still at the council, topping the pension up, refusing to climb or putting myself in any kind of danger what so ever (I want that chuffing pension!!) Working on my third marriage and running an internet fetish 'Tree Surgeon' site for the many middle-aged women that love us so much :001_tt1:
  23. I wouldn't worry about a study group, just read, read and read the pack. Use the mock tests in the back (fill them in in pencil) rub them out, then do the tests over and over again. He'll be fine!
