  1. This was a nice beech tree in one of our parks. Its been host to Ganoderma for a number of years. There are three footpaths within falling distance of the tree, i.e. High Targets...
  2. I think the hotel was a travel Inn,very nive though. Parked the car for 3 days just down the road (a few hundred yards away) If did cost abit but didn't fancy being blown-up on the tube!
  3. Bigger the better in my book, if your chipping smaller stuff the machine will be under less stress. Have at this link (sorry about the sound though) http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=11009045948&oid=12054243295alook Look for groups and click on Worcester City Tree Team...
  4. I'd kill myself on a motorbike so I'm currently two thirds of the way to buying a Caterham. In the mean time I ride this...
  5. I went away with the wife and kids to London last summer, took the Discovery as well! We stayed in a hotel right by the London-eye. We got free tickets for the 'eye and a free river trip! Didn't cost too much either...If you want the details I'll see if I can find the number...
  6. Good work! I've got two Scots to take down, one about 3 feet away from a 3-way road junction and a bus lane...not looking forward to it!
  7. Lets see if this pic will up-load...
  8. Nice pic of Inonotus dryadeus. Oak tree, Hanbury Woods, Worcester. Well there would be if the pic would load....
  9. We are all booked in for CS47 (use of chainsaw from a MEWP) next month. I personally don’t want one, but my 'employer' the local authority has a duty of care towards its employees and has decided to buy one. I love the challenge of climbing but at the end of the day, I just want to get home after work and be able to see my kids. If a MEWP makes my work safer, so be it. If you don’t want top handled chainsaws banned then it’s up to us to portray a professional image and keep the accident rates low!
  10. I hardly ever use my saw one-handed, and I bollock my lads if I see them doing the same. Good positioning and not rushing is the key. Almost any part of a tree can be got to with some applied thinking and a level head…
  11. I think we control the destiny of our dear 0200’s. Any more accidents like the recent one and it maybe taken out of our hands…literally!
  12. Yep, the quicker they grow, the faster they fall apart!
  13. Yeh, not bad...it does have a small screen though, not good if you have 100's of surveys to get through! I'll get used to it though
  14. I know, its crazy! We have a newish estate in Worcester, built on shrinkable clay soil and the planting list seems to have been...Poplar, Oak, Willow and Hawthorn! Mad, just mad...
  15. I totally understand what your saying, Its a shame to see established trees removed. These Poplars were planted by the developers when the estate was built. (It is all to common for developers to plant trees with no regard for species or position.) I do however stand by my comment that this was the wrong species, planted too close to the property. Crown reduction was considered but rejected because of the re-growth associated the Poplars. (The tree is in a green open space and in a exposed position) We shall replace the Pop, probably with a nice fastigiate Oak. John.
  16. Hi folks, we removed this poplar today. It was a shame to fell it, however its a case of the wrong tree in the wrong place! It was on our land and had many complaints from local residents. It also had an approx 5 degree lean towards the property... We removed a few heavy limbs on the one side, then it was a case of pull-rope up, connect to the tractor and down she goes!
  17. We have alot of Lime trees in the city, some with suspect knuckles; so they end-up looking like this...
  18. Cheers Ed, I've been fighting to get these done for years (highways only just came up with the money) I'm keen to see how much re-growth they put on in the coming years...time will tell I guess!
  19. Its abit old now, but here's mine....
  20. I'm using a PDA made by htc, called the 'tytn 2'. It seems ok, its got a phone, GPS and looks cool when I'm in the pub! lol. Software is called 'Stay-safe'
  21. Bless you 3dogs, I shall sleep with a smile on my face now! Take care tomorrow with your 0200's, watch out for that kick-back!
  22. I just dont like the terms 'Lopping' and 'Topping', maybe I'm in the worng..? Maybe I'm not..? I just know you'll never see it written down the side of my van...!
  23. Hello guys and girls, My name is John Hancock, from Worcestershire. I'm senior arborist for Worcester City Council (we have our own in-house tree team of 4 guys inc. myself) We're always busy, working on trees in our parks, highways and green-open-spaces.
