  1. In my former life I had a cycle shop in Cheltenham and sold a bike to Norman Wisdom no less!!
  2. Due to huge demand Barchams have put on a second day (WEDNESDAY 29th April) I'm booked on that one. Might be a few places left.....
  3. Meaning what? I’ve got my head in the clouds? An employer who pushes his lads into and through exhaustion is treading on dangerous grounds. On a hot day, if you’re knackered – you stop work, have a rest and carry on, (no matter what type of trousers you happen to be wearing). I’d rather add half an hour to the day than risk a serious accident caused by heat-stroke.
  4. If your fatigued whilst working in the heat, you should stop working, find a shaded area and rest. (As the HSE recommends). Wearing just front protection would make little difference and bring little benefits, compared to the increased risk and reduced protection.
  5. Hello Big-Boy, welcome to the Forum!!

    John.

  6. How much is the pov1 Steve?
  7. I always climb in class C (Hiflex) I dont even own any class A's. I even wear my Hiflex in the office, just in case.....
  8. My final entry – The link to trees is that it was taken in the little woodland that I help look after, Oak, Ash coppice and Hornbeam. Its lovely down there, even saw a deer this morning! (If I can motivate myself I’ll get an early start tomorrow and see if I can get some pictures)
  9. Nice one Jamie! Whenever I used to get a nice load of logs I’d take them to our local pub/restaurant. I’d never ask for cash, just gift vouchers – The family and I used to eat like kings!
  10. Thats good, fair play - walked right into that one! N.b, I did mean Banking.
  11. Just a tip Dean - If your doing any online banking etc, just plug the cable in from your router to your computer, then disable the wireless network.....No one can snoop then.
  12. Cant really blame the fella Dean. Where do you live? Just grabbing the lap-top and I’ll be right over!
  13. Try and make it on Sat Mick - It'll be good to meet 'ya!
  14. I’ve always pruned veteran trees differently in that you don’t target prune in the normal sense of the word, i.e. branch collar – branch bark ridge. Instead, carefully prune the dead wood, leaving a small amount still on the tree (approx 5-10mm). This way you can be more confident in not cutting into the branch-collar & ridge, which should be already well formed.
  15. If you can make the effort, I'll be there mate - looking bald and grumpy as usual. lol It would be handy if we said what days we'll be there - I'll be down on Sat.
  16. They can be vicious little buggers when they want to be. How much do you recon for the two trees SWB ?
  17. Fair point Frank, the little story behind the pictures is here….. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=5992&page=4 Basically yeh, if I had a cambium saver in my kit bag I would have used one, but it was my day off and I didn’t have one at hand. As mentioned in the above thread the punter came out two thirds way through the reduction and informed me they’d rather have it removed (after previously agreeing to a 30% reduction) They are personal friends of mine so were hastily talked into postponing the removal for the time being. (I think it’s a nice tree, giving some good contrast in the garden). I could have ‘topped’ the tree below the anchor point and created a much bigger wound, which would have been far worse, but no – I was an Arb with a conscience and no cambium saver!
  18. One more pic of me above my anchor cambium point saver thingy…
  19. Thought I’d post a pic of my anchor-point I used on the Silver Birch on Wednesday. It was a 30% reduction and I did climb above this point (but used my strop as a secondary anchor-point).
  20. I'll have a black one.
  21. You were getting close there Jonesie………….. Not close enough, thank God!
