  1. I just went out to price trimming the top of a hedge and also a price for reducing it by 2'. The woman wanted ball park figures. I hate giving verbal quotes so I said 45-60 and 160 respectively. plus vat. Jeez I thought she had swallowed a wasp. " I only paid 30 quid last year" WTF does she want a quote from a Tree Service for then? I gave her the full we are pro's and have wages and insurance and tip fees etc. Some people just waste my time.
  2. Shigos' failing was that he came from the wrong side of the Atlantic. He had to start from scratch in the "tree management " business. Whereas we Europeans have been managing and manipulating trees for 1000's of years.
  3. Fortunately you have no right to tell the owner what to do , and fortunately he can't punch you out when you tell him he is a tree molester.
  4. Was that in Ringwood? I looked at somthing like that last year.
  5. Is that a native tree Drew? I cant find it in my Native Trees of NZ book.
  6. Funny you should say that, but I worked with a cutter years ago who often went to the pub on the way home fully decked out in chainsaw PPE including loggers belt with log tape and timber tongs . He only took his hat off.
  7. I'm gonna get one of those for my 880!
  8. yeah its friday " let yer hair down"
  9. I got caught about 10 years ago. It was a nice building regs book though. One lot called and tried and tried to bait me. I called back a moble number of the agent after office hours and reduced the girl to tears on the train. I bet she could have sold ads in a dictionary of swearing after that chat.
  10. put his car in the free ads.
  11. Rather than port a saw many chainsaw users would do better to learn how to sharpen the saw well .
  12. That thing is so light you would expect it to snag the stump and shoot over the top.
  13. That tree saved me from going to sunday dinner at the mother-in-laws.
  14. I think this was Meripilius, the fungi still comes back on the remains of the stump and a main root each year . It could have been standing for years. I have a pic of the stump that needs resizing.
  15. I find my new dragonfly more reminiscent of the willans, than the butterfly with seat. I keep thinking i'm gonna slide out.
  16. Thats how I would have put it. Arb work seems to have more debris/chain contact than forestry. I specify semi from my chain man but have some full as well for most saws in the fleet.
  17. Long hair is fine if you are aware that it may be caught in equipment and keep it restrained. If you are female (possibly some males too) then I expect resin from trees could cause hair washing traumas.
  18. Green Hell. [ame= ] [/ame]
  19. look here for timber prices you may have to look through lots of sales to find any Poplar though. http://www.beaconauctions.co.uk/
  20. Me too. The penultimate decade of the last century, sounds like a long time ago .
  21. I recall those days with my 2, now its " can we play on the Wii " etc... (My first words according to my parents where daddy, mummy, tractor, bugger.)
  22. Get one of these , I did and got my money back in 3-4 months. Pay about 2900+vat. Good resale value. Well built. http://www.westconuk.com/item_display.php?id=216
  23. Is this it? http://www.northerntooluk.com/products.asp?partno=16050E The cutter wheel looks to be a one piece affair. That means its gonna be a b!tch to sharpen.
  24. Check yer crabs in the shower
  25. Saturn have always done offers on the lines of 3 for 2 or similar. I stopped using TW originals when they where £120 for 2 sets. I cant remember any difference in performance. Out of dozens of blades used I have broken 1 TW and cracked 1 saturn. I have used far more Saturn blades than TW. I deduce that saturn's are better.
