I got some sports safety glasses from Lidl. They came out a few weeks ago so watch for them coming again. They come with changeable UV protective lenses and you have the option of taking the padding off to make them more breathable. They have wrap around elastic so they can be used in conjunction with ear muffs. I find all glasses steam up but I've taken a fine 1mm drill bit and poked holes around the edge of the lenses to minimise condensation. The orange tinted lenses brighten a dull day up a bit too!

I've got a lot more than that to pay so no chance of paying in one. I heard it gets scratched when you reach 60? There's no pockets in shrouds!

Pruning oriental planes is dangerous. The fine hairs under the leaf irritate the skin and eyes even when wearing a mask. Gets my athsma going aswell

I'm interested in the Sunday line-up. How much does it cost as a non-member?

The advice I hear and read is to pay off the minimum which is what they take directly out of my wage based on a percentage of my wage. However in doing this I'm not paying off the interest so the debt is increasing and I'm wondering if I should start to pay more to nudge it in the 'right' direction. Anybody in a similar circumstance or know someone who is?

I got a bag from aldi that is a tough yellow plastic and folds at the top to make it waterproof. Cost about £7

Slick work man well done. How many ropes did you have up there at the most? I assume the floating pulley needs its own separate lowering line but as it isn't load bearing you might use something lighter like a length of 3 strand? I'm envious because I can't convince my employer to invest in more rigging gear so I can't play around as much.

"...the bigger problem is the crane inspector looking at your rope access gear and having no idear about what they are looking at at all. that is a danger." That is my concern with our inspector from zurich insurance. IMO he doesn't fall into the definition of a 'competent person' as he has to ask what each item is when doing the inspection!

My girlfriends dad said he watched a tree climbing competition that lasted about half an hour on telly but couldn't remember where and when! He seems to rememeber it might have been on the springwatch programme... anyone know what he's referring to?

I knew there would be a bit of diversity in the jobs you could go into with rope access training and experience. I'm thinking it would be good to do something in the winter but somewhere warm.. What about setting up aerial access equipment for filming in rainforest canopy, I wonder how they get into that kind of work?

I get these urges now and then to try something new. A mate of mine went and did his rope access training and is now working on the rigs earning big dollar. The training cost him about £3000 but he made it back quickly. I was thinking of maybe doing the Rope Access Technician - IRATA level 1 but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this and what sort of jobs they've got through it?

Is this the the body that provides the best information on rope and do we use the following publication for retirement criteria or is there a different one for the UK? CI 2001-04 Fiber Rope Inspection and Retirement Criteria

So what's the recommendation here? Clip the lanyard/flipline back into the central attachment on the harness so that the climber is no longer part of the loop should the piece rip down?

There was a mature monkey puzzle transplanted in Towneley park, burnley and the pit was dug with a tree spade. It's taken very well to its location but I wasn't on the job so I haven't had experience with them

I'm not self employed but I'm looking for a loophole. One that a lot of people are unaware of is that you can claim laundry expenses if you are provided with corporate clothing (i.e. anything with a logo on). This can also be back dated five or six years

Does anyone know if its possible to get subscriptions to arb magazines and journals then get the money back in tax arrears? I've heard from my mate that his mum gets all her books paid for but she is in the medical profession.

Took out a birch once that was overhanging a wall on a main road and gravestones on the other side. Nowhere to drop the thing so we got a mewp in which worked a treat and had the tree down in no time. Hardly needed a chainsaw because the tree was as soft as butter with decay. On this occasion I was glad for the MEWP. Also used a mewp on tracks to raise the epicormic on an avenue of lime trees. The trees were dense so it saved a lot of laking about setting up anchor points which were few and far between. I see it as another useful tool to add to our repertoire

I was thinking a reel might be a lot in the back of my mind. How many meters would you say lasts you a year Bob? What do you mean by going out of date? I'm not aware of shelf life for rope but I'm sure if there was it would be stated in the paperwork that comes with it

The alternatives to driving are not good. Cycling is deadly with the way motorists race around now, though I'm still toying with the idea. Public transport is over priced, unreliable and you are often stuck in a confined space with people full of disrespect for others. My folks were on a train carriage on their way back from Liverpool and everyone had to watch in horror as these two drugged up space cadets threatened and insulted everyone then the ticket conductor took to his heels while they started smashing the place up. The funny thing is that this pair were led down on the platform close to the tracks in preston station and they were escourted onto the train by staff rather than out of the station! My bro commutes to manchester and he has to put up with stuff like this daily.. no choice because the motorway is jammed
