I've decided to buy a Toyota yaris second hand for the commute to work and running around. A good choice? I was under the impression that they would be cheap to tax but an online search shows otherwise (its a 2004). Is it true that they have a chain rather than a timing belt? What about mpg?.... any other Yaris owners on here?

Don't think so Dean, sorry but here's another one I found on the net Barn accomodation in Gisburn Forest | Dale House Barn Looks pretty good and its in Easington and seems close to Newton where there's a nice pub but can't guarantee good lookers. It seems to have more facilities than the last one we went to but its still sleeping rough at the end of the day

I've found neoprene gloves too restrictive due to the elasticity of them and they more than often have no grip unless they have leather palms or similar. Check out the range on this website Sealskinz socks, gloves and hats I like the look of the leather palm on the extreme winter glove

My treetop smock is really good and very hard wearing. The only trouble is that your BO tends to linger in it pretty soon after sweating! Haven't heard from kipperfeet for some time on here, wonder how he is doing with his business?

Anyone watching it on sunday/monday? It bugs me that boxing is so exclusive for viewers. Is there anywhere on the net you can see it? Pacman will get it but it might be a close one and then he can set his sights on Mayweather

Every winter I try out new gloves because I get painfully cold hands. I'm sure its to do with my circulation because sometimes I feel pins and needles then suddenly my hands come back to life on their own accord as though something was blocking the blood flow. I remember one job when I was setting up a line in the tree and as soon as I started climbing I couldn't feel the rope so I came down, went into the van and put them over the heaters for 5 mins and they felt brilliant. I then went back up the tree and climbed no problem. Sometimes I climb without gloves even though my hands are cold then when I put gloves on later they become warm very fast. Does anyone know of some mitts that peel back to expose your fingers when you need a little dexterity?

These look good but a bit dear. I've had some good sealskins and lost them. I don't like the skin tight ones as they aren't that waterproof and not too warm either

Those two tone marigolds are ace. I sometimes wear a thin pair of fleece liner gloves on the inside for extra comfort and they last for ages. Additionally you can grip pretty well in them in all weather and they will keep your hands warm until the sweat cools them down too much. They also go over your sleeves so the slime doesn't go down the sleeves as much.

I started Environment Economics and Ecology at York and was a broken man by the end of the first year due to the amount of heavy mathematics, statistics and calculus. Other parts of the course were great and interesting but I spent most of my time trying to get up on the tricky stuff. I ended up doing Archaeology which was easier in comparison with that but its not got me anywhere as yet. Can't beat the uni experience though but think seriously about how much debt you want to get into. A student loan is the best loan you'll ever get but you could end up paying it back for the rest of your working life like myself!

I've just got the Sordin HPE earmuffs 31snr and attached them to my stein helmet. They seem to work much better than the sordin left/right types and I've also noticed that the two little pins at the back of the attachment seem to rest against the helmet like they are supposed to; unlike when I mounted the left/right types. This makes them more rigid and gives a better acoustic seal. I'm not impressed with the tiny little screws that hold the MSA sordin adapters on though

My haix protector pro's have been good but grips on the sole have worn down to nowt and the rest of the boot is in good condition. I've heard that these have soft soles to allow a better feel when branch walking but the haix tibet forest have a more durable sole but lack that dexterity advantage. They are both the same price from my understanding. Has anyone else found their soles have knackered first?

A bit short notice for me otherwise I'd have our team attend. A shame because we are booked on a first aid course that day and this would go hand in hand with that. Any plans that this event will happen again??

Are the HPE 31 defenders the best ear protection I can get at the moment? Do people prefer them to the left/right sordins?

Ok couldn't get on with the big sordin muffs so put my husky (little sordins) back on thinking it would be just like before but it seems like they don't clasp my head the same as on a husky helmet and doesn't have the same acoustic seal. Don't know why
