  1. If you cut where THEY wanted and THEY are paying and THEY are happy, I would be happy too
  2. "looking awfull" is some what different to "I'm not happy".
  3. That was a great vid!!! Thanks for taking the time to share!!!
  4. This is all good advice!!! I have a mog, it costs me a ridiculous amount to repair and maintain. I would say on average between £5K and £10K per year, although so far this year I have spent £20K:scared1: BUT I still have money in the bank, it makes me far more than it costs. I hear what Buzz is saying re HGV's, I have thought long and hard about changing mine, but an HGV would not do the things my mog can. Find me an HGV that would go up and down here
  5. What a tosser!!! One thing I would advise, is never, never, never, never!!, do day rate for private work. I find its fine for commercial clients, they run businesses and know a fair days work when they see it, IME. With private customers they see you stood for a minuet and are thinking thats just cost me £ !! Give them a price, then it doesn't mater to them how long the job takes.
  6. Sorry mate. Had a PM and think its sold.
  7. You are, you need to dry the outer edge of the log, then the moister in the middle will migrate out. If the outer edge remains wet the inner will never dry.
  8. I have a used grinder for sale, if your interested?.
  9. Thats how I saw it, not really "pegs", IMO. When you spend half your life making pruning cuts its hard to break the habit.
  10. I'm fairly sure its only an offense to park facing the wrong way "after dark".
  11. True, but I still prefer to have 12 tonne of mog and trailer between my man and the on coming traffic.
  12. Another good reason for having the chipper on the front of the mog
  13. Cool!!!!! clearly I need to give you a call!!
  14. Thanks BrendonV, that looks like a very handy and compact machine, am I right in thinking its a Thomas? Does any one know who sells them in the UK?
  15. Me, you and Stevie could get together and get a real good deal on three!!!!
  16. DO NOT ask at the time of quoting, IMO, thats unprofessional. If you don't win the job, just thank them for giving you the opportunity to quote and say " Do you mine my asking what the wining quote was", you have given of your time to quote, so I feel your within your rights to ask. If you win the job chose an opportune time whilst doing the job, maybe while having a cuppa with the customer to just say " do you mine me asking what the other prices you got were?" It takes time, but over a period you will get a good idea of who charges what and where abouts you want to be in the pricing game. BUT as I say to my customers "I do not aim to be the cheapest ,but I do aim to be the best!"
  17. I have always come at it from the other end (much to some members discussed) I try to find out how much a job is worth, IE what other firms would charge, then find the fasted most cost effective way of doing the job, the gap between my costs and the "value of the job" is my profit, the more the merrier, I say!!!
  18. They do look to be a great peace of kit Ed!!!
  19. I'm thinking of getting some sort of small tractor or loader. The sort of thing you could take round the back of a house to carry out timber, etc. Just wondered what others have or have used. All recommendations or info on ones to avoid appreciated. Cheers Dave
