I'm sure the fish really appreciates and takes comfort from that, as it fights for its life and gasps for breath.

The RSPCA hope one day to ban fishing. But really they have point, its not very nice to drag a fish with a hook through its mouth or stuck in its gut. out of the water (which for a fish is the same as drowning) Just in the name of sport.

That was my alternative, so I went for what I felt was more humane. And as I said in my post, I watched to see if it went frantic or showed any other signs of distress and it did not. I would take no pleasure from any creature suffering.

P.S. he did not steal it he asked and yes I do think all theft is wrong, but then thats just me.

I was just going to start a thread on this myself, unreal!!!!!!!!!!!! When we first started doing up this house we had a real problem with rats. I caught some in a trap, the first one that I drowned, I watched to see if there was any suffering. IMO there was none, the rat swam slowly round looking for a way out, then a few bubbles came out of its mouth and then it died. I felt relieved that it was not a cruel way to dispose of them and went on to drown all the others I caught. The RSPCA are muppets, IMO, and I will never give them another penny.

When I have had chains snap, they tend to just sit in the cut in the timber they were cutting at the time they snaped.

Yes, it always makes me laugh when people speak about "solar power", virtually ALL out power is solar, we have very little else. I heard some interesting stuff on radio4 about oil and coal, they think that the various organisms that decompose timber and other organic mater had not evolved when most of the fossil fuel was laid down. Which explains why it was able to be compressed into fuel and not just decompose.
