  1. No, my understanding is that coalitions are more likely.
  2. Its called "retention" if those experienced and doing the job are not better than someone keen to do the job, your doing something wrong.
  3. Are the current firefighters doing a good job? Are the applicants of high enough cabler? If the answer to these is yes, why pay more? I guess you would switch car mechanics if you felt the service was god, but the price was too low Remember the pubic sector have many, many benefits beyond their basic pay.
  4. Where does tactical voting fit into all this?
  5. I think the idea of "true democracy" is a flawed one. Its an imperfect system, where a majority can find they don't get what they want, its the largest minority that often wins. A hung parliament is possibly fairer and would possibly be more common under PR, but it can be pretty impotent and lead to stagnation.
  6. So what possible reason is there to increase the pay?
  7. I guess. But I'm pretty sure many on the loosing side will still be unhappy. Just look at the referendum, that could not have been fairer, each vote was of exactly equal value, but the re-moaner will never be happy. We live in a time of self entitlement where people feel aggrieved that they have not got their way, regardless of the number.
  8. How many applications are there for each firefighter post advertised?
  9. Just a quick search seems to suggest it would make virtually no real difference to the actual result, but smaller parties would be a little better represented. https://www.makevotesmatter.org.uk/proportional-representation/
  10. Fair enough. Please excuse my ignorance and explain to me how it would work please
  11. Yes, its always better to loose fairly
  12. Lets also remember that some Corbyn supporters got more than one vote Students 'openly boast of voting twice' for Labour sparks election rules review | Politics | News | Express.co.uk
  13. In answer to your thread title…… not very well I almost never give people a date. Usually just a rough idea such as "sometime in August" and tell them I'll ring the night before to check the following day is convenient. I also tell them to feel free to chase me up if I don't ring them within the time frame I mention.
  14. Big snotty lump, thanks for taking the time
  15. OK, all joking aside, do people really think the result of the resent election would have been any different under another system? If Labour and all the other parties combined they could not form a working majority, so I fail to see how a different electoral system would have changed much. For the last few decades we have had 3 party politics, because of the success of the Lib-dems. But this election has taken us very much back to the 2 party politics of my youth, that makes getting a decent majority pretty difficult. I acknowledge that our system has its fault, just look at UKIP"s hay day, 4million votes and 1 seat, that can't be right. But in this current election I really do feel people are grasping at straws if they think a different system would have changed the result, if anything the tory's would have done better in a different system or at least labour would not have done as well as they did. But I ain't no expert.
  16. Indeed and I acknowledged the seriousness of the problem, did I not?
  17. WOW!! 1951!!! thats terrible!!! We clearly have a huge problem!! best get things changed real fast!!!
  18. Please give me a single example of when the opposition got more votes than the wining party, I don't believe it can happen.
  19. My word But you have just acknowledged that the vast majority would vote for the same party for both appointments and that not doing so would be unworkable You know who the current leader of each party is, so you do actually know who is going to be PM, depending on which party wins. This is politics, not Big brother or the X factor
  20. SO WHATS THE POINT OF CHANGING THINGS THEN!!!! Oh dear
  21. So, Grenfell Tower residents are being housed by the council in hotels etc, yet its some how outrageous that they have still had their rent payment taken. Am I missing something? I rent, if my home burnt down and my landlord rehoused me while they made repairs, would I expect to pay no rent? NO!
  22. So you vote for a local MP and a PM, which vote would trump the other? And if the local MP you vote for is in a different party to the PM you vote for how does that work?
  23. Really??? The title didn't give you a clue?
