  1. I hear what your saying Tony, but if there is an all powerful god, who needs us to turn to him for our salvation, would he not at least take the time to keep the organisations that represent him clean?? Instead they have be havens for "monsters". Little wonder so many believe him to be fiction.
  2. Indeed, before I left the JW's, I researched the bible in it original languages, often the were 6 worlds that could all be used as a translation for the original word, so you have to know what you want the bible to say before you translate it which makes it pretty pointless.
  3. Arn't covenants only put on as a condition of a planing consent, so the LA could not put one on a hedge, unless the owner was seeking planning content for something.
  4. But your god tells you many times in the bible that you must fear him Leviticus 19:14 “‘Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your God. I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:13-15 (in Context) Leviticus 19 (Whole Chapter) Leviticus 25:17 Do not take advantage of each other, but fear your God. I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 25:16-18 (in Context) Leviticus 25 (Whole Chapter)
  5. This forum is outstanding and doing very, very well. Thats mostly down one man, Steve B. Stick with your instincts mate, its worked real well so far:thumbup1:
  6. No, this forum is not compulsory and member only divulge what information they wish. Why do you feel the need to tell us you disapprove???
  7. You don't need to know much about anyone in life to get by, but IMO it makes life much more pleasant and interesting when we do know about those with whom we interact.
  8. Not at all!! This is a discussion forum, most problems in life come from ignorance, people think they know what others think or believe, when in reality they don't. It good for people to put forward their points of view, then even if you don't agree you better understand others.
  9. All Christians should read Job, if thats how he treats his friends, I'll give god a miss thanks.
  10. Unfortunately Jesus preached and told his disciples to "go forth and spread the good news", so all good Christians have a duty to try and convert you.
  11. Sort of 1879 I think was the founding of what became the JW's, but 90% of what they now believe is totally different to what they believed back then, they are very good at changing things to suit current times
  12. Nope, they believe in resurrection, they are nearer to what the bible actually says than most other religions, their only problem is that the bible is nonsense, its a real shame .
  13. The Jehovah's Witness don't believe we have a soul, they believe that this was the first lie that the devil (in the form of a snake) told to Eve, that she would not die, because of her soul, if we have a soul, then we don't really die, so don't need Jesus to die for our sins.
  14. Faith is a choice, people chose to believe. Its not a case of a sound logical argument being built which leads to a conclusion. When debating with people of faith, as soon as you show them the contradictions in the bible or point out that the earth must be more than 7000 years old, or any other sound reasoning that undermines their faith, they bow out of the debate or say gods understanding is greater than ours, so can't understand all his ways. They don't want their faith tested by debate, they want it to be true and want to keep their faith. Which is fine but they should not be surprised when those of us who wish to look at facts before believing in something chose not to believe.
  15. Do you work Sunday mornings so you can stay home in the week to watch Jeremy Kyle????
  16. No. IMO they are better than Christians, they do the right thing just because its the right thing, not because they are fearful of gods wrath or looking for some reward after death. There are many, many great people out there and having a faith is in no way a prerequisite for being a good human being.
  17. :001_rolleyes:Come on Tony do your really think we had not worked that one out
  18. Well of cause, are you saying most things in life are black and white???
  19. He ain't!!! Read your bible mate, god is cruel and blood thirsty. After the flood, after god had destroyed every living thing on the planet, saving only those in the box, what was the first thing he asked Noah to do after finding land???? Kill and burn some of the animals from the Ark, and it says as the smoke went up to heaven "god smelt a restful odor" God is made in the image of man, a tool to control the weak.
  20. Your quite right, its actually worse than Tom stated, they normally ask for voluntary redundancy applicants, now those with little drive, skill and work ethic are not going to want to try and find a new job. Its the hard working go getters who see this as a chance to go some where new or start their own business, which tends to leave councils with a weaker team. I am in no way saying this is always the case, but it does happen.
  21. How many religious people truly believe???? Why do we never see people celebrating the death of a loved one?? if heaven is so great why so sad???, whats the old saying "every one wants to go to heaven but no body wants to die":sneaky2: Some one mentioned nuns earlier, they and monks are the only true Christians, Jesus told his disciples to be "no part of this world". I see so many christians living very full lives now, but having read the entire bible several times (well I listened to it on audio tape) I know that jesus taught that his followers should have only the very bare necessities of life and spend the majority of their time and effort preaching the the good news of his kingdom, this is very rare among most Christian groups. I honestly think that religion is a crutch or sort of insurance policy, people do what they think is enough and this gives them peace of mind and means they don't need to worry about death (which some people really struggle to come to terms with) Some people do have a "God shaped hole" in there lives and a religion helps them cope, but a great many people do not. I don't, I remember nothing from before my birth so I'm sure thats the same state to which I will return, so why worry. As has already been mentioned my immortality is in my children, their future is far more important to me than mine. When I was a JW there were many benefits, I had a huge family of "brothers and sisters" who would help me when ever asked. I could travel to any part of the world walk into a Kingdom hall and be treated like family. If I wanted help with DIY of car repairs, they were there and most of them were very nice people, I miss them greatly. BUT its simply not true and once I realised this I could not live a lie and more importantly I could not teach my children a lie. We had 200 people at our wedding, a huge number of those people would now cross the road if they saw me coming. My wife and I have had to leave virtually everyone we knew behind when we left (as did her parent), but we knew by leave our children would not be within this cult and the friends they made would be unconditional and hopefully last a life time. I thing that gets me most about many religious people is the hypocrisy, as the bible puts it "they have a form of godly devotion but prove false to its power"
