  1. You should really have planned and priced to dismantle, but then decided to fell.
  2. First frost of the season here, looks like its going to be a nice crisp day.
  3. Thats incredible!! I've seen loads of Ash fail like that, but can't recall seeing a Beech like that before!!
  4. I'm the complete opposite, I would much sooner speak to someone than send a texts and I'm far more likely to remember a call than a text. We are all different I like getting calls about work, it make me feel wanted
  5. If someone buys seasoned logs, they should be just that, regardless of price. If they are sold as seasoned and are not, its the seller who is in the wrong, not the buyer, IMO.
  6. No its not and no I don't. Why is it when ever we are buying we want a bargain and thats fine, but when we are selling anyone wanting a bargain is a skinflint and deserves to be shafted:sneaky2:
  7. Should people who shop around for the cheapest insurance be given a duff cert????
  8. Most of the benefits you list are better provided by young trees with lots of vigour. I've lost count of the number of failed large Beech with Meripilus that I've had to clear from roads and gardens, often with perfect canopies with no dead wood at all. I did one two weeks ago, it was resting on its neighbour, still in full leaf, no die back at all. I dismantled the crown and when I got it of the other tree, the stem crashed to the floor, nothing was holding it up and we have had no significant wind when it failed.
  9. With mobiles you can switch them to silent too
  10. Why would any want the risk of keeping a defective tree?? Just fell and replant.
  11. Yes and it was wrong then. Sure its against HSE recommendation and you could be protected (as a guy was in a previous thread) but it would require a great deal more than just using an 020, two handed on the ground for the HSE to even contemplate prosecuting you. To suggest that there is a fine of £2000 for the offence of using a top handle saw on the ground is ridiculous.
  12. Big tree, they were pretty lucky it landed where it did, looks like it could have nearly demolished the house!!
  13. Why not just make a 75% gob, you would probably not have even need the rope.
  14. How big is it?? Its hard to tell from the pic.
  15. Yes you are right to a point, I was 100% Stihl until earlier this year, but I do feel the quality of Stihl stuff is falling and the new policy, stopping posting really gets my goat (even thought it does not affect me personally) so I will be looking for an altunative to Stihl when ever possible, we have a 550 and it really is a great saw, I really hopped the 540 would be great, but its really been a let down.
  16. I think its more to do with the newer square cabs being far more powerful, so tend to be worked much harder, so things ware or break more often. But while they do cost more to maintain, they generate more income, so are a better investment, IME.
  17. Yours has a larger tank, bigger fuel filler hole and softer plastic??
  18. Fuel tank is to small, stalls when hanging if the tanks down to the last quarter, not as ergonomic as the 201, gets very hot, fuel filler hole too small, not as powerful as everyone seemed to be saying, plastic seems very brittle. Just a bit disappointed after all the hype. TBH, I wish I'd gone for another 201.
  19. Got to say my 540xp is ok, but not great.
