  1. Yeah, burn up is alway a bonus, especially this time of year Yes the crane will reach well beyond the chipper, so we often move brash with it when needed. Yes we really should make more of an effort to take pic's and post them:thumbup1:
  2. Are you using AV's own HD springs?? They have no taper and are really not fit for purpose:thumbdown: If your mog is fully loaded all the time, IE fitted with permanently attached equipment, taking the mog to GVW all the time, they are fine. But if you are empty going to site and loaded heading home, the lack of taper will not allow your brake sensor to adjust to the changing load.
  3. The trunk will sit where I felled it and provide a home for all manor of wildlife:thumbup1: Not many mills would even want a butt of that size, Beech is not rare and smaller butts produce most of the timber buyers want at much lower cost.
  4. The job was priced for just over 2 days, but fortunately the neighbours (one of whom is an old client) wanted work doing which I costed at 1 day. We were there for 3 days, so made good money with the bonus of about 9 tonne of nice size Beech firewood. The deal was than any amount of brash and timber could be left on the clients side of the river, so we took the timber we wanted and burned the brash from the river side. It was a job that just went really well, ever the weather was in our favour
  5. Yes, was fairly careful to start with as I fully expected a fair bit of movement, but there really was very little.
  6. If it were not for the river and it being on the outside of a slight bend, meaning further erosion was inevitable, I would have suggested simply filling the crack with soil and monitoring I guess I should really have considered moving the river?:001_tt2:
  7. Yes me too, they generally need to move very little before they go over, I guess this one was just so well balanced and the root plate and soil were just so heavy it stayed up.
  8. Did a bit of a strange job earlier this week. It was a pretty large Beech that was growing right next to a river. In the last floods the whole tree moved about a foot nearer the river. The root plate sifted a good foot, opening up a large crack and exposing roots, some had snapped, so simply stretched. The tree was still stood up perfectly straight, with no sign of it trying to fall over, it had simply moved, not something I have ever seen before. The people in the adjacent houses were more than a little concerned. I dismantled the tree to the point where I could fell it on to the bank. I was very surprised by how stable the tree was, I anticipated it moving about a fair bit as the weight came off, but it was very stable, moving no more than I would have anticipated had it that shown no sign of movement. Fortunately the river was well down when we carried out the job, allowing me to drop a lot of the brash and timber onto a sort of pebble beach, we burned the brash on the beach and we were able to reach the timber with the crane. Only got a few pic's that the customer kindly emailed me, should have taken some pic's really, but didn't. There is a short video of the fell which I will add once my son has got it off his phone and onto a PC.
  9. Would vegetable oil really be a problem???
  10. Just post your bid hear
  11. Not been my experience. I simply state, "collection in person only" and "no Paypal". I had a guy who won a pool heater for £500, he rang asking to pay by Paypal and send a courier. I explained that unscrupulous buyers some times allege there is a fault with the item and get a refund, which would leave me out of pocket, so I insist on people checking the item when they collect and only accept cash. The guy was shocked that buyers could even do this and fully understood, he was happy to come with the cash
  12. I simply state "No Paypal" if they do pay via Paypal simply refund immediately
  13. Simply refuse to accept Paypal.
  14. Very nice!!!! I would kill for a building like that!!!
  15. Not everyone know just how much work you put into these things Steve, I take my hat off to you sir!!!
  16. Well done Steve, outstanding effort and well done to all the sponsors, some fantastic prizes!!! Times are tough, just making a living is difficult (or is it just me?) and the fact that so many have been prepared to help out those less fortunate than themselves is very heart warming!!! Good on all involved!!, its a VERY worthy cause:thumbup1:
  17. Oh dear
  18. I have myself made this very same spelling error in the past, but as anyone with dyslexia will confirm there are days when I can't spell "then", genuinely Thank goodness for spell check Although it still catches me out from time to time, sure its a correct spelling………..but is it the correct word????
  19. Shame they can't even get the chain tension right
  20. Thats just a bit of good luck on the neighbours part, I guess if it bothers you, simply knock what you make on the little job of the main job. Life is not always fair, some people get an opportunity and take it
  21. How do you come to that concussion??? Lets say I'm charging Mrs Jones £500 pounds to fell her tree, I get there at 9 work until 4.30, she pays me the £500, I leave. Alternatively, Lets say I'm charging Mrs Jones £500 to fell her tree, I get there at 9 work until 4.30, then nip next door for 10 minuets do a small job for £??, the at 4.45 I collect my £500 from Mrs Jones and leave. In both situations Mrs Jones got her tree felled for the £500 agreed, so she is IMO unaffected.
  22. NO!! You referred to people who offer to carry at out work at a reasonable rate as "arseholes" which I still feel is unfair.
  23. It light down your way at 3am:confused1: Up here its not light till getting for 8am just now.
