  6. no probs mate....im sure you got plenty of fancy pics of you hanging from trees!
  7. hi Jay, I did this a few weeks ago. I found you have to upload your photo on to avatar not profile.
  8. I have got the climbing companion. But i found it hard to comprehend in places. I find the American version uses diffrent words for some of the techniques we use. Got me a bit confuzzled. So i wanted to get something from here in the UK. And the UK version is in line with the HSE. jay, will badger jason tommorrow, cheers mate.
  9. Does anyone know were i can get my hands on the AA's good climbing guide book? I tried there website and it says " out of print". Are they still around?
  10. I learnt loads from that..maybe i can impress my tutor when i do my first chogging this year!GULP!!
  11. Dont think i have noticed the Pinus up near Thetford Andy, will have a look. Where in Thetford we talking? Intresting that the trees were made for ships by using weights. Wow!
  12. I sent her to Nirvana with a flea in her ear yesterday. Thought it was dodgy.
  13. mm..INTRESTING. Looks like some sort of adaption to growth. Maybe when the trees were saplings the leaders were lost or bent by wind and now they are growing back to the upright poistion. Claus matteck talks about trees adapting to wind movements. Maybe the saplings were open to strong winds in their youth , got bent grew outwards and then as we know they correct their growth to grow upwards towards the light. Thats what i would say has happend. What tree species are they?
  14. Were is the tree situated? That would be my first question. Is there a badger set nearby or a badger latrine around? Badgers usally rumage for worms and roots , i dont know of them using bark for nesting. Wrong time of year for them to be making warm nests for their young. Are there any tracks or paw prints to give them away? If its an urban site , not likly to be badgers,Squirrels maybe. This FC website might help. http://www.forestry.gov.uk/fr/INFD-6K4KAF
  15. Sounds great. Shame i cant make it. Dont understand ' new wildwood reserve '. We dont have any wild woods left except a small Island up in the Highlands. Birch and Scots pine wildwood remnants. Dont they mean non intervention? there two different things.
  16. Cheers tony. Would like to take you up on your offer. PM if your ok with it. I dont probe to hard.Sorry steve forgot its a family website1:awink:
  17. Cheers Andy. Didnt think of it like. Wonder if i could look into the bussiness of the local lap dancing club:). Just thought it would be better to look at Arb bussiness, seeing as thats what i want to get into to. Its just an oppurtunity to see how a business runs. thought i'd ask.
  18. Hope this is the correct place Steve for this post. What it is , ive got to study a tree bussiness for an assignment at college. This will involve looking at managment structure , finnace , bussiness planning , all sorts. I wondered if anyone would allow me to probe theirs for information about how they run it. I will not share this with any other party , office , goverment dept. It will strickly be confidential between myself the party concerned and my tutor for marking. I would wrather study a tree buissnes rather than any other type of bussniess. If any one is worried i can give you the contact name of my tutor. Thanks.
  19. Hi Mark , welcome to the site. Training depends on what in tree surgery you want to do. takes longer to get qualified if you want to be A tree surgeon with a academic good knowledge then do a BTEC diploma or National award / certificate. These can take 1-2 years. NA's are two days a week at college. One day of theory , tree biology , bussiness managment , pruning ,tree id. Then one day climbing and using chainsaws. Or if a few short courses just to get your climbing and chainsaw ticket. Depends how far you want to take it. You can learn theory without college but it helps.
  20. thanks for this, its always good to know how to recongnise health issues. I'l pass it on.
  21. I see what your all saying. Why do you think there's not enough work? Do people want to retain trees more for conservation value? I thought because of this compensation culture we live in that pepole want trees /branches felled to avoid being sued ,due to them falling on them? Well il still try and get into the industry in some form.

  23. ouch! Whats the problem with students. Surley you cant paint us all with the same brush. I agree there are cowboys out there, that use brawn and leavetheir brain back in college ,but there are dedicated intellegent students to that intend to learn as much as we can and put it to good use.I count my self as the latter. Just intrested to hear, forgive me if i got the wrong end of the stick.
