  2. Hello Matt, nothing yet , going to start my own little buissness up , just starting out with partime private work at the moment. Got to get some insurance and sort out tax issue then il see what happens. Know what you mean lee , with this current economic climate. But any partime work is better than nothing. Just need to get on the ladder so to speak and get some experince so then when it does pick up i got some experince and know how. give us a buzz matt and we will go recreational climbing.
  3. I like Collins 'tree guide ,the most complete field guide to the trees of Britain and Europe'. Lots of info and written descriptions and good detailed illustrations. Shame there is not a book with specific info in it for tree workers thou , would be nice to have a book written for us with it all in one place.
  4. Got the letter yesterday from the Council..didnt get it. Thought i wouldnt..no worries..didnt think i had enough expereince anyway. Just out of college and wanting to jump the gun. Well plan B then, get some private work myself , get my self up and running as a sole trader / sub contracter. Will get some feedback from the TO who did my interview, would like to know what i lacked.
  5. Does the landlord need a brain transplant or what!! I would go the tree officer, you can go over the landlords head i think if you feel a tree is a threat and a danger..i know the council can do that and bill the land owner after the removal..dont quote me on that. safty first questions later?

  10. Qoute from rebbecca:Hi Generally if the underside of the ganoderma is dark it is no longer alive. As a previous answer said you will probably get some fresh ones growing, however if you get no more then the ganoderma has in fact been compartmentalised and has run out of suitable feeding material. EUREKA! Thats intersting..thanks bundle. will have to see if i can go back to the site and see if there are anymore growing on the beech.
  11. Thanks David, i agree the best way to learn what they are is hands on. Its diffcult to tell with them they change with age and likness with age dont they. will remmber that , cheers. I know what i looking for now.can give the client some advice now.
  12. i just checked a book and it says P.igniarius is a trunk rotter yes..mmmm? may be a ganoderma then david. The only thig is that ganoderma that im looking at in books has white pore undersides , this one is all black underneath.
  13. can you narrow it down to species do you think. Checked out your old thread bundle, the cracking is in common with P.igniarius.
  14. :001_smile: if it came from a tree i could have found a new species....ganjaoohhderma funnieslights!
  15. Just finished at otley college by any chance?
  16. looked at this today on a beech. Found it at the base of the tree in the buttress , think its a root rotter. Its woody and perinnieal , fan shaped and hard, black all over , no pores visable on the underside. i thought it was Ustulina deusta but that hasnt got any long pores this one has. Ive gone through some books and i think its P. igniarius.Any ideas guys and gals. sorry about the un david baily photos.
