  1. dodger, have you got any news links to that claim?
  2. Deans thread. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/maintenance-help/10616-timberwolf-fins-flywheel-bearings.html
  3. The fins are on the back of the fly wheel, the bit that you bolt the blades on to. They make the draft to sling the chip out. They can be damaged by the bearings going, blade faliure and are not cheep to replace. Dean Lofthouse has a verry good thread that was on here not so long age detailing replacing the bearings on a similar machine, with pics! It says it has been referbed, find out if he did it or paid for it to be done because if not shimmed properly the bearings will were fast. If he referbed it he should have recites look as these - what was done? The older chippers had 0ne bar oing around the top of the hopper then in oct 2002 i think A retro fit bar had to be installed to go around the table of the hopper so incase of trips etc the rollers! I googled the guys land line number to see if there was any advertising, nothing came up.
  4. Find out when the bearings were last replaced, take the shute off and look feel if there is any damage to the fins! Look at the condition of, the engine - smoke ect, Axel, Tyres, Hitch, It doesnt look to have a HSE bar fitted so factor in the added cost of that if you want one fitted! If you go and look at it, ring timberwolf up and give them the serial number they will have a record of owners if it has been up dated?
  5. When I was at college they had one in the shed, just wonderd how they worked and if any one had used one.
  6. Has any one got any old pics or info on how this contraption worked?
  7. Must end up costing a fortune!
  8. [ We have to refresh every three years in my job How come, what do you do?
  9. It was 12 years ago I did mine, could ld have sworn it was 2. Must of been because there was a gap between doing the two when I was at college doing NCH and to be honest that was the only time ive done the arial rescue, are there refresher courses just for the rescue?
  10. To get the arial rescue you need the climbing first. If you sub your self out as a Groundie, no not really but it depends what experiance you have as to what you can charge, if you can work riggin ropes ect or you will just be paid to drag brash!
  11. As a 2 man team You are ok to dead wood the tree allthough you should have your climbing + arial rescue. and no need to contact the LA any other work Needs to be applied for? Where abouts in berks are you?
  12. With out approval from the LA all you can do to that tree is dead wood. You need to send a application form to the LA that the tree owner pays her council tax to and also check for conservation areas and planning conditions. Have you got your climbing + aerial use tickets?
  13. I guess try some graphite powder on it.
  14. Back in the summer I took down a large pine and had it down in the day. When the woman paid me £750 she said i was the cheapest the other quotes were £800, 850 and 1500+vat and all the companies that quoted were local an reputable. And im sure your work and the way you run your team is too a high standard.
  15. But what about the letter he served the woman comdemming the tree, that was out of order! In the end didnt they all have a chat and the younger one said he would look in to getting more training?
  16. Thing is the cost of all the machinery, insurance, risk and the hard graft etc that we put in, we should be able to charge a damn site more!
  17. I try and work out at 250 no vat per person so 2 man £500 and three man £750 per day sometimes I look at the job and think I cant charge as much and other times and look at a job which can be done but is wourth more than 750. There's a larger AA approved firm near me that charges £300 inc vat per person per day and they go out as 3 man teams and each team needs to earn £900 and the team leader main climber only gets paid £80.
  18. Well if I was going out at that id be selling the truck chipper and the rest of the gear and pack it in + if you north west and then im Berkshire / Surrey borders, the cost of living, houses etc are a lot higher down hear!
  19. Yeah I know all they had to do was dead wood and remove the storm damage and yep £450 would be fine and id be happy with that but Pinder said 3 man team for a day at £450 now obviously that work aint going to take a day and you aint gonna get a three man gang for a day for £450 more like £750-900 depanding if you charge vat.
  20. [quote name=I was talking to someone from the LA today, and he knew the place, he told me the place was cleaned out not so long ago [/quote] And I bet the scum didn't have to pay for that either, all down to the local tax payer!!
  21. Old James is at it again, 3 man team £450 for the day???
  22. remove the whole stump and as much roots as possible and I dont think arillatox is sold for honey fungus any more, a garden cleaner now?
  23. Corner of a field for chip, logs and a small fire. If I didnt want the field I could dump brash to burn for £80 a load! Most of the farms around Berkshire / Surrey are stuck up livery yard owners with more money than sense and pick some stupid £££ out of the air and you can take it or leave it!
  24. Doubt it, I asked a farmer about some land once with the above to offer, he wanted £1000 a month!
  25. This might sound a bit daft but if you really want to stay dry you could buy a cheep water proof dry cag used for kayaking. They have latex wrist and neck seals so no water getting in there! They wont restrict movement, if you can paddle free style in them climbing a tree should be fine,
