    veg oil

Move to NZ, diesel is less than a dollar per litre at the moment! i got some for 78cents yesterday!!
  2. yeah i hear ya man and agree that it definetly has its place BUT it still needs a climber on site who can do a rescue to go and undo the lanyard. The system is not a replacement for having a good second climber, which it can suggest it is. My personal preference is to have an access line installed and groundies who are trained to do a rescue. Different techniques for different jobs. Just having this discussion is good as keep you thinking of different ideas. cheers.
  3. i agree that the above is a really good technique but what happens when the climber is stropped in with his/her lanyard? This technique then becomes useless. As arbocop said, practice, practice, practice. We set aside a few hours every month to practice aerial rescue in different scenarios, knowing all your crew can do a rescue (in theory) is great piece of mind whilst working at height. Ive only done one real rescue (and hopefully no more) and this really hit home the need for practice. Its like insurance, you hope you never need it, but if you do need it, your glad youve got it.

  9. Does anyone make a pair of chainie trousers that are also fireproof and arc proof for working in close proximity to powerlines? the regs have just changed here and it is what we will have to wear otherwise its standard chainsaw trousers underneath flame retardant/arc proof trousers! the heat will be a killer. An NZ company is making some up but i wondered if any are currently available.

  21. nice one rupe.(does it hurt when it springs and slaps you?) I just use the petzl secur on mine.
  22. my normal srt is just sending up a running bowline and locking it off at the top. Then ascend up the line and lanyard in. clip all the ascenders into the eye of the bowline and lower down to the ground. This then leaves an access line that can be climbed any style in case its needed. Climb on a different line of course. I know its got certain issues with rescue but the way it leaves an access line(Dbrt or srt) wins over the tieing it off at the bottom technique for me.
