  1. sorry if im teaching you to suck eggs, but your not sticking it on choke for restarting it are you?
  2. looks superb, bet the bat detecting was interesting, its great once you get into it, the wife has just had a new detector from work, which plugs into a MP3 recorder and you can then analyse the sonographs once you get home to check the identification properly, looks an ace site, and well managed
  3. the wife has been out surveying on the in laws farm this morning, and found two species of orchids, she is going back to get some pics in a bit so i will post them up Thats a nice field of poppys reminds me of Norfolk in summer
  4. no it wont fit an 064 different bar mounting, it may fit with an adaptor plate, but it wouldnt be ideal, plus its to much for that saw unless on skip chain
  5. Cheers for that, I have an isolator in the cab already for the 12v supply to the rear for when i use the rear winch. so i will route it through that set up anyway. I am more worried about it going walk about quickly as i know a few local guys who have the winches nicked off the front of the vehicles,
  6. cheers for the feedback guys,it all looks reasonably positive. I already run two superwinches an ATV2000 on the quad and a GP2300 on the back of the defender on a tow-hitch set up, and i have not had any bother in the past with them. The one i am looking at has been used but full refurbished, and as such doesnt have the rope on it yet, it has albright solenoids as well, and i have a lodar wireless controller ready to plumb into it as well so i can operate it myself when felling as having done some winch assists in the past comms with the person on the winch can be tricky at the best of times, so i would rather take that risk out of the equation anyway thanks again Charlie
  7. Hi, wondered if anyone is running these, whats your views on them good/bad/indifferent, i have been looking at a 12v set up, not really interested in pto or hydrualic as it will only be for occasional directional felling assistance and timber recovery from wet boggy areas where i cant get the atv into, spool in speed isnt important so happy enough with the retrevial speed of this model also views on the rope type appreciated as well, wire or synthetic? Cheers
  8. sounds like the training provider is clutching at straws tbh, i would ask for a refund and book with a bigger training provider who will be running the course, rather than keep getting rolled over from one month to the next until they have 4 people to run the course
  9. Has any one attended one of these yet? if so was it any use? im supposed to be attending the one next week in Derbyshire but it looks like a fairly small attendance
  10. do you use tyre sealant, if not you will want to, there is no substitute for quality rubber, especially if your running in woodland, we used to run cheap tyres on the front of our JD6020 loader tractor and we were getting punctures every few months, if you can deal with the down time and fix them yourself its fine but we have gone back onto named brands and arent having anything like the problems. the other option is to ring round local ag dealers and see if you can drop on a set of part worns, i have a set of goodyear 16.9x38s in my shed as a spare for my baler tractor, they have about 40% tread left, and cost me nothing at all as the dealer was going to have to pay for disposal
  11. i would use decent boxes, if you end up doing it as part of mitigation works its likely you will have to use specific types of box depending on the species your targeting, IE no point putting up boxes for daubentons in a woodland away from any water, etc basically dont scrimp, use something like schwegler ones, and build this into your qoute and explain the benefits to clients
  12. good powerful tractor, not much electical on them to go wrong, and most can be fixed in the field if it does, turning circle of an ocean going super tanker, but pretty bomb proof, just check for play in the front axle and steering (especially check the center pivot grease nipple has been greased) as any wear to these can cause you big head aches, I run a 2720 the bigger version for baling with and its a big steady old tractor but they are very cheap hp really
  13. BGS used to have a very good web based browser, I will see if i can find it, if it still exists try this BGS online geoloigcal maps you will need to zoom to the local area to see the geological features, the relevant layer will be Superficial deposits
  14. dont think you should be though! is this whilst your climbing at college?
  15. im not sure that it will meet the requirements for a climbing helmet, so will be limited to ground use, chinstrap or not unfortunatly EDIT: what Rupe said
  16. nice set up, there was one like that on ebay a while back unless it was this one look a very handy set up for softground
  17. its downhill to your yard you wouldn't need the breaks anyway your trailer is looking tidy now, wonder what it would be like for hauling bales? being my huge bale hauling trailer plan has gone out the window now for this summer
  18. swap you it for a MF699?
  19. Cheers for all the info guys, I spoke to someone in the village here yesterday who i saw was using a husky their complaint was apparently they dont cut very low, so probably not going to be much appreciated after using the marquis, i will try and find a decent honda Charlie
  20. Just wondered if anyone had used the husky walk behind mowers at all? been looking at a R53SV, and just wondered what the quality was like on them, Im going to swap my cylinder mowers in as they do a great job but are heavy to use and only good for very level ground, so if anyone is interested in doing a deal on a Ransome Marquis or a couple of antelopes with a load of parts drop us a PM Charlie
  21. Is Nathan living near Uttoxeter Max? im sure i have seen him in town a couple of times lately
  22. I figured you probably must have, I have been tempted but dont tow a bigger trailer often enough to merit it really, if i could find somewhere cheap to do it i may sort it this winter
  23. did you do your seperate B+E test then Max? if so how was it
  24. wheres the rest of the bar my main firewood saw for use for cutting up smaller logs is my 340e husky, very light and nimble with a small bar, its also very easy to start requireing only two or three pulls from cold to start, I have used a stihl260 and tbh i dont like the feel of them, they are smooth to use as well, so its probably a personal choice, ok the 340e is not a pro saw but its very fuel efficent, and is smooth to use for a long time, mine spends quite a lot of time on my logmaster bench, so i can cut the smaller lengths of cord a lot quicker, and i dont have to refuel very often. I process about 4-5tonnes of logs for my rayburn like this per year and im very pleased with it for medium bits its the 346xp then the 372xp with a 24" bar for bigger bits as required
