  3. the wire is to keep tension on the rope so it does not slide all the way down and you can replace them we use a length of throttle cable but snare wire works too or alternatively send them to me for my collection
  4. the positioner works on metal strop the cinch does not positioner is slightly better than grabs but the swivel is a big improvement we have 3 guys using positioners and 5 using grabs and i don,t think its worth the expense to swap them but when we set new guys on we will be buying positioners with swivels I use a positioner on metal strop and a cinch on rope.
  5. me please steve grovel grovel
  6. i am also an assessor and do re assess candidates that have been sent on refreshers and am always supprised how little they remember and how many bad habits they have and not unknown for them to fail

  8. when parking in a pub car park dont park too close to bollards as when youve had a couple you may set off and damage your bumper
  9. camping beer and a night climb challenge would be good
  10. there is a bus in our area and they have produced the worst pruning cuts i have ever seen all done by bow saw and not allowed to lean over side of bus and all done by untrained guys. The bus is covering all west yorkshire eventually which is very worrying and has caused many many complaints a small mewp would do a much better job and a lot faster and hopefully they would have to recieve a bit more training
  11. i want a 3 new lowering ropes that do not require pulleys portawraps ect for very light branches. We have been using retired climbing ropes but would like to get something a little bit more suitable H&S compliant

  18. watching keep fit DVDs may not be that effective but its the thoughts that counts
  19. i have dismantled several and am always supprised by how heavvvvy they are and dont use your best climbing or lowering ropes but if your going to move it think carefully about how heavy it may be
  20. yesterday one of my work mates cut his forearm on a chainsaw resulting in a 6 inch long and deep cut needing 18 stitches what is strange is the saw was not running it was in a vice on a bench been shapened all he did was reach to the back of the bench for a box of bolts but caught a newly sharpened cutter and sliced his forearm badly so be warned. one good thing that came from this was i have made all team members carry a large wound dressing in a resealable bag in the pocket on the side of there chainsaw trousers and even though they were in the workshop with first aid kits at hand the first thing 2 lads did was whip there bandages from trousers and were on before the blood started flowing rather than finding then opening first aid box and then finding a bandage I hope this makes a few people think about carrying a bandage most of us climbers carry a first aid kit i hope but how accessible would it be if needed where as in trouser leg pocket would be easier imo

    SRT Setup

not for me i did it to see if it could bring new dimensions to the tree world and for me it did not although i think it was a valuable learning experience it only qualifies you get get to a position to start work and usually you need some further qual or experience to carry out that work either electric geology engineer ect and there was a lot of travelling around as work is not plentyfull in a local area though did enjoy the course and some of it has come in handy at times there is always something you can learn from other industrys even if its dont do it like that:001_tt1:

there is a difference between the 2 work equipment many regulations recreational no legislation this set up as many would not be acceptible in the irata (rope access) i am a level 1 irata and would not want to climb trees by the same rules as they do
