  1. I'd be interested to know what happens to that money and why its changed. Are there problems with sponsors?? It just seems like a backwards step to me. Surely, the climbers are the focus? We're putting on a show for the ISA really aren't we? Were ISA members consulted on this?? I certainly don't remember being asked? It wasn't so long ago I sat in on AGMs where we were asked for suggestions for the future of the comps...
  2. £50? I know two people who I'm trying to convince to take part that will never afford/choose to pay that! I never even knew until cardiff last year that the top three in each event got prize money. Isn't it a danger that increasing the entry money risks making the comps more elitist? A bad move IMO.
  3. I've currently got the orange spv M600 which uses EDGE gprs which is as quick as 3G. And i'll be upgrading to that very phone HTC TYTN 11 looks like the only way to fly....
  4. never went down that road as there are other phones that provide email services and blackberry charge for the service.
  5. its re-running on ITV 3 now. Can you imagine trying to get that comissioned today!!!
  6. Quecus ilex Because they grow in such daft ways...
  7. Just got my spatha this morning. Cheers Lee. I'll make sure the cards find good homes!!!
  8. So, is the AA's technicain membership grade a step in the right direction towards filling a gap? Offering a technical post nominal - Tech.Arbor.A? Will it encourage more guys on the tools to join up to a professional organisation?
  9. million quid? I think its about £90 for an ISA member and £120 for a non-member. I'm still very proud of being a Certified Arborist.
  10. I know and you pretty much covered everything I would have said only far more eloquently. Just thought I'd bring it up to see what the response of the 'other half' would be.
  11. You only need to get the ceus in the 3 years after passing the exam.
  12. I subscribe to the UKTC and get a lot of good information from it. I don't post but I read it all. A recent thread discussed the creation of an extra membership class by the AA to credit those with technical skills. Some important points were brought up but later on the issue of industry division was raised. It really seemed to me that there was a "them and us" attitude, (although not from all the posters). That those involved in management, planning and consultancy looked down, not across, at the chaps on the tools. But as I thought about it later on, I realised that the opposite is probably also true. I'm guilty myself of lumping all the guys in suits as useless pen-pushers As someone trying to keep a foot in both camps, it worries me that our industry just can't move forward for the group benefit. Where does the future of arb lie? Are we looking at greater division or increasingy unity? Where does the division lie? On-the-tools / Off-the-tools?
  13. One thing I'd like to see is a bit more referencing. Its great to post good info but its more helpful to name your sources so others can follow things up.
  14. Aye, those were the days... Trouble is kids today though, don't know how good they've got it.
  15. You were lucky to have a box. When I were a lad, mother would make us lie in lava. Broken glass? We prayed for broken glass, we ate hammers. Then father would beat us with our own fists and kick us to sleep in the lava...
  16. He ain't old school - he's pre-school!
  17. Just to update the update - Prizes are sorted and will be given out to 5th place in all three categories. Not bad for a hour of your time!!
  18. I'd stay clear of making any comments about the possible influence of the trees on the house. Its a very slippery slope...
  19. Thats for you as the arb expert to decide and to amend the shape (but no the area) of the rpa as necessary.
  20. Bloody hell Reg! I would have loved to have picked my old bosses chippers up ha ha brilliant. Great vid. Nice big chunks as well. Those vertical sections on the lombardy - I used to love doing multistemmers with our GRCS. Total control, I used to step cut them, turn the saw off and talk the winch man through the lift. Do you ever worry about mounting the winch in the fall path? Its hard to get the rigging lines right if you move it but it used to concern me with the big lumps.
  21. Don't quote me on this but... The way I always looked on it was that if the tree or part of a tree constituted a material hazard then you should undertake the work. If it was just general management work then you should leave it. However: - It comes down basically to the issue as to whether you would be prosecuted and I think (regardless of the technical detail of the various regs) we have to take a pragmatic stance on this. To be blunt - I think that a prosecution is unlikely if you've chucked a few pigeons out of a hedge cos I don't think that was the main spirit of the regs.
