  1. Apologies - should have read 3.5 m3 when dried to 20% MC. (see my latest post)
  2. 2m3 roughly - agree with that for volume when processed, however when dried to 20%, 1 tonne = 3.5 m3. Have some green soft here at 60 and 62% MC.
  3. 1 tonne split green logs for fuel approx. equates to 4m3 when dried to 20% MC, which is what you burn in 24 hours to heat the 40ft container with 36m3 of logs in. Part of eack batch of 36 you need to be kept for boiler fuel. I am just trying to ascertain the exact return per annum 'at todays' RHI medium tariff rate, one would recieve as 'Net profit' after the fuel costs and associated overheads are factored in. My rough costings show that an annual 'net profit' from the RHI 'at todays' medium tariff rate to be approx. £9,200. Anyone care to say what 'net profit' from the RHI their costings give?
  4. Don't forget the roundwood has to be handled - processed - handled - dried - handled - fed into boiler = fuel / labour / overheads for everything associated with the above, so there are a lot of hidden costs! The RHI may have been 20K per annum for those who signed up early, however the actual net profit on the RHI scheme is far below that. Many benefits if course even so.
  5. *** "The key to making the figures add up here is to use “free fuel” or getting paid to burn the fuel as I know one entrepreneurial user is doing." *** Sorry, I interpret 'getting paid to burn fuel' as recieving the RHI tariff - Is that correct? Thanks.
  6. Ooh forgot that one. Protimeter are quality.
  7. Yes D is a mine of Knowledge - he has posted before but I can't find the thread. Others have posted their average m3 fuel burnt per batch
  8. Need to spend > £100 if you are a professional retailing Firewood. All the others just give a basic guide.
  9. How many tonnes of Softwood would you estimate Ash to secure the 20K RHI?
  10. If it is difficult to start it 'may' have dropped a valve.
  11. Do the easy service items 1st. 1 The 2 main fuel filters. 2 The bronze mesh filter in alloy head of the glass bowl water trap - carefull not to damage it - use a fine pointed knife to pull out one edge 1st. 3 Fuel tap tank filter. Do you know how to bleed fuel system after working on fuel system?
  12. Wow, I appreciate your view on a small unit for distribution and invest the 50 - 75k we all have tied up in our production facilities!
  13. That's a large smile.
  14. You are already the subject of envy for those who missed the boat without a reminder! Business is sounding good for you though and it's good to have positive outcomes for once in ones life
  15. That sounds like a well organised, established setup !
  16. Do you kiln dry a few crates in each batch like most others and do you still dry a Batch in 5-6 days - 40 ft container? Thanks
  17. Excuse Ash - He's out re-fueling the Kiln boiler - again.
  18. Thanks Ash. Yes others I know have similar issues and most just live with it. Swapping cages around mid cycle is murder and therefore a non-starter. My early container back in the dark ages was heated bottom up 100% - that was a revolution, nevertheless the top layers would be the last to loose MC ! Another design ducted the drying air to multiple points along the container - that was a very effective innovation. I expect you oven dry representative log samples which is why you quote 5 - 6 days, very realistic as I assume you have approx. 150mm insulation. Have you thought about using hardwood to dry as it retains temp. much longer ?
  19. I expect as you have a similar container setup to Duffryn, you are looking at 3.5 - 5.5 days for green hard down to app. 20% MC ? Are you using solely Larch and Douglas like most others, processing down to 500mm split and drying 10% of capacity in the container for fire fuel per batch? Thanks
  20. It certainly look that way. Air dried hardwood retails for around 95 and kiln dried 130 around here, are your retail prices similar? Thanks
  21. Those are both options, GF or similar for 38K or a recommended european supplier. It must be the way I was brought up, as both of those options just don't sit comfortably with me. Maybe plain stupidity, as many say don't be ridiculus 'take the money and run'!
  22. Mmm - Batch boiler 60% efficient, I quite agree - that is realistic given all the variables and 3.5 days with your specific installation is as would be expected - efficient energy conservation etc. That makes drying the timber without RHI feasible if you avoid batch boilers, would you agree? As you are of an age that will still be using your boiler after the 20 years expires will you still dry without the tariff ?! Excuse all the endless questions.
  23. Just bog standard with no RHI.
  24. If 20 years was up today and the RHI payments ceased today, what do you think it would cost to dry your next batch of Firewood using chip at your current costs ? In addition if you had an oil boiler of the required rating linked to your installation what do you think it would cost to dry a batch using oil. This is really usefull to know for those who may have the option to use oil to dry or boost there own batch boilers at night but have no feed in tariff. I am not sure if you have posted before that you woudn't dismiss drying wihout the RHI if you had an unlimited supply of dry waste wood. Do you agree?
  25. Do you have an accumulator linked up to the boiler?
