  1. Due to the winning of a number of contacts we are looking for freelancers or possible fulltime employees Any level considered but experience and tickets preferred. We have the possibility for team leader position if you are the right candidate. We are an Arb Approved Contractor, running decent kit and working to a high standard. Based in Draycott, DE72 3NX. Work day 8.00-4.30 (normally) 01332 875 869 [email protected]
  2. I am pretty sure it is easier to downrate a truck then to uprate one (although I have never tried uprating one). 3.5 toners can't carry much as it is. So if downrate a 5.5 toner to 3.5 ton you end up without being able to carry anything. If you need 3.5 ton 4x4 tipper, there is only really the LR. IMO, everything else is too small (our 130 is to small for everyday tree works). There are a few rare oddities such as 4x4 transits, vw grafters, merc sprinters but not much else and they will all have tiny capacity.
  3. I don't have a problem with it, just pointing out that the figures sometimes quoted for "what a climber is worth" don't add up in my world...
  4. Self employed subbies should obviously get more per day then an employee, however you still will have overheads . Assuming you could achieve a day rate of £500 for a 3 man team (Climber £175 second climber £150, groundie £100) That would give you £75 a day or £16,500 a year to pay for everything...
  5. That is roughly what it costs me a day to run my business that supported around 5 guys full time last year. I am using my figures as I don't have anyone elses. If I paid the wages that were mentioned I would still have similar running costs. Others costs will vary but I don't think we run an inefficient company, infact per man we will probably be cheaper then many 3 men teams as some costs don't increase as much such as insurance and advertising. The trouble is there will always be guys like yourself willing to do a weekender with two mates for £400! That will depress the market.. So the market will not pay the £700 a day you need to pay staff those rates. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/business-management/74737-how-much-dismantle-9.html#post1126921
  6. Add up everything you spend in the year, advertising, insurance, tools, training, fuel etc etc... divide by the numbers of work days in the year and you have a daily cost...
  7. The job is worth what a customer is willing to pay. These are back of fag packet calculations but.. It cost me last year roughly about £300 a day BEFORE wages to run our 5 guys. Therefore each guy has to earn £60 plus his wages and some profit would be nice... Assuming a 3 man team: Climber £175 second climber £150, groundie £100, the £180 costs, about 15% profit £90.. You would need a £695 day rate, every day. Not realistic around here I am afraid...
  8. Same model I believe
  9. It's 9x14...!
  10. We have no issue with TW, our 250 is great, and our old 190 is running well since its extensive service at orange plant. Came down to value for money. The TW350 cost more! and it was orange.. The Vermeer is also lighter.
  11. Not just looking!
  12. Picked up our BC 230 xl from Vermeer. Thought I'd show it off! Liking the way the yellow and green match our company colours.. Our TW250 will probably be up for sale or exchange on arbtrader when I get a minute.
  13. As a recent AAAC's I would be miffed if an "affiliate contractor" got on the web site or to use a logo.. But I don't think you are planning to do this. The term "affiliate" makes it sound official, "working towards" is less likely to cause offence. My issue is that mrs miggins wouldn't know the difference. Is there a proposed cost? There would have to be some minimum standards and some sort of max time frame..
  14. Iveco Daily 55S17W 4X4 Crew Cab Tipper/Box 5500 kgs gvw 170 bhp Euro 5 | eBay
  15. Same as a crewcab transit then.. I had a subaru sumo van many years ago, put big tyres on it and it was great fun. Just long enough to sleep in and could get me to the top of hills for hang gliding.
  16. This thread comes up often on here as you might expect.. The interesting thing to me is that rates don't appear to have changed much in 5 years... But the cost of living has... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/8384-article-research-how-much-do-you-charge-days-work.html
  17. It has changed so much from ten years ago, not all bad. I was asked how much I earned self employed, they never asked for accounts or anything... I just made up a number... I wasn't even working at the time..
  18. Can anyone recommend one in the East midlands? Or a provider who will come to us. I have 5 guys to do it..
  19. I use a snow shovel, we always have them on site for clearing up and the head is to big to go through our 10 inch machine.. works great.
  20. The company paying your bills doesn't win! If you are only win the work because of a backhander, the manager is stealing. A bit of advice is OK but anything beyond that is wrong IMO..
  21. Big difference between a back hander and a finders fee, IMO. A finders fee, where someone gets you to quote for a job that you wouldn't have got is OK. A backhander, where a employee of an organisation takes some cash and gives you work is in my opinion well out of order and probably illegal. I have heard rumors that this happened on a local housing corporation contract, we used to operate. Really bugs me when I see the poor works being done probably at a high price too...
  22. I have a site clearance job in leicester city, could either do with somewhere local to dump chip probably 15-20 truck loads over a couple of weeks.. Or less and we'll take half back to our yard.. Or Someone with a loader who would be able to push it up a couple of times during the works and then load an arctic.. [email protected] 01332875869
  23. Bring it on pete..
  24. Do you regret selling it to us? We have made the back a bit higher and have a full length tool box that works well. It also looks better green.
  25. Pics... A thread is always more interesting with photo's..
