  1. Makes a change from the old ones which leak out of the drain plug..
  2. Are you sure it hasn't been downplated? Even that is not straight forward!
  3. I know in the past 10 years running a tree business i have never paid myself 35k.. and we are running 8 guys full time at the moment.
  4. One issue when looking for staff is that many experienced guys with the abilities your looking for just set up on their own. The mass of small companies competing for work then depress the market.. but that is another issue. I was supprised at the low number of applicants when we were looking earlier in the year. Also supprised when i saw what you were offering. Made me consider going employed.. Another firm to us are regularilly trying to poach my lads. Considering all the talk of colleges turning out loads of climbers i have ended up training up 2 guys over the last two years and of the frequent calls i get most have no experience.
  5. Here you go: 2014 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 130 2.2 TDCI GREY CAGED TIPPER DROPSIDE 4x4 | eBay
  6. 7. If I had £30K to spend on a works vehicle I wouldn't put it all into a LR... With that decent budget you could easily afford several vehicles (including a LR). Any vehicle will be a compromise of some sort, the Mog/4x4 iveco route have numerous advantages if you need the 4x4. Their main drawback in my mind is cost, but the OP has a fair chunk of change.. If you don't always require 4x4 then a standard tipper is way better than a LR 9 times out of 10. If you want an expensive 4x4 then thats different... I want the most efficient vehicles for my business.
  8. What is this new truck for? For that sort of cash you could have a landrover for the few days off road and a proper truck for every other day. If you need a 4wd every day then for that cash surely a mog or 4x4 iveco would be a better option.. Don't get me wrong I love our 130 tipper, but it is only used when we need 4x4, or all our other trucks are in use.. I would not want it for my main vehicle, way to small.
  9. Looking for a seven seater with room for a dog in the back is the biggest issue. We have a Mazda Bongo. It has been a great motor, we brought it straight off the boat from japan. It was in amazing condition. Four and half years later and I have had no major issues to date. I think apart from servicing all we've done is changed the tyres and the exhaust. Not bad for a car that is nearly 20 years old. Driven to France 4 or 5 times, several with a trailer with bikes and kayaks. Used by the misses as the family run about. It is nice to drive and even 4wd. No mud plugger but helps you off wet campsites. It is however thirsty! When it finally dies I reckon I will replace with a Caddy maxi. 7 seats and a decent boot, plus decent MPG... I have the van now and rate that..
  10. We may have an old 222 manual and even some blades, I will have a look. OUr chipper was pinched several years ago..
  11. Or actually your really a very small person.....
  12. Having purchased and used on a site today I wouldn't bother again. It's not accurate enough, misses trees, adds extra trees. It might work OK for nicely spaced street trees but no good for clusters. Seeing as you can't just download a spreadsheet with the data it's not much help.. Having a high definition aerial map is good, so how/what do I need to get that on my tablet plotting with the GPS and allowing me to mark the trees?
  13. It has been discussed on here before many times, some one mentioned a statutory demand and I have used this threat successfully a couple of time now. Prompt Payment Code https://www.gov.uk/statutory-demands/overview
  14. Has anyone used the National Tree Map for Surveys? Looks really useful, and not overly expensive? I was quoted about £20 for a 500x400m area plus another £20 for the satellite imagery. What software do you use? Is there free/affordable versions a luddite can work? Is there a simple way of getting the data onto an excel spreadsheet so you can add to it? http://www.emapsite.com/downloads/product_guides/NTM-Specification.pdf'>http://www.emapsite.com/downloads/product_guides/NTM-Specification.pdf Can be purchased from: https://www.blueskymapshop.com http://www.emapsite.com
  15. I don't think it is fair to charge your employee, things get broke accidents happen in this game. If they keep happening then perhaps look for a different employee. However, is it legal/fair for me to fine my lads for repeatedly not doing simple things I ask of them? Hi-vis for example. I supply them, but regularly turn up on site and find they aren't wearing them.. Eye protection, not using a banksman when reversing.. Not filling out the SSRA etc..etc.. My gut feeling is that it would cause bad feeling. I have thought about having a bonus that is lost, however feel that it is wrong to get a bonus for doing things that should be done anyway?
  16. I have three pairs looking like this, that need some attention and would be interested in a price? We have many more pairs in the company that I'd have done if the price/repair is right!
  17. It depends on the type of work you do.. For £30K you could get a decent 10 inch chipper! Or a landrover and a 6 inch.. I would rather have a big chipper and hire in a tracked machine when needed. I have hired in a tracked machine a few times in the last few years, and each time it reminds me I hate chipping with 6 inch machines. If you have a 4x4 there are quite a few of those chip on site jobs you can also get to.
  18. If you are doing your own jobs get a tipper truck. If you are freelancing get a van..
  19. I gave up trying to do my own. Rob has a very quick turn around and good results. I believe he was going to run some arb specific training a few years back. Mr Robert Kehoe BEng.(Hons) BSc. Director ActionCAD Ltd. You'll find me on LinkedIn. Tel: 01606 374997 Skype: ActionCAD.Rob email: [email protected] ActionCAD Limited 172 Delamere Street, Winsford, Cheshire. CW7 2NA ActionCAD.co.uk
  20. I have had both.. the transits are a big van the grafter is a small truck.. imo
  21. CrewMedic - Marine First Aid Kits - First Aid Kits for Boats Some one posted these a while back. It may not be the arb aid but I'd recommend the pelican case. Add a few israeli field dressings some eye wash and it makes a good affordable kit.
  22. I have had a company from Manchester repeatedly calling me of late, started by saying no thanks, end up hanging up on him when he got rude. He or someone else from Manchester then calls up again, to which I hang up, I then got a couple of calls where he doesn't speak. Rings each week. Bloody annoying...
  23. Rather then sell it keep it and get a new one! If it works and you know its history you might only get a couple of grand for it. Having a back up machine is always handy.. Also makes expanding the business easier..
  24. This is what I use, don't know where I got it. Age Class: Y Young; tree in first third of life expectancy M.A Middle Aged; tree in second third of life expectancy M Mature; tree in final third of life expectancy O.M Over Mature; tree in decline V Veteran; tree with major physiological decline, surviving beyond the Typical age range for the species
  25. We got pulled a few years back, we pulled in confident everything was fine, they thought one of our chippers wheel bearings had collapsed, gave us an enforcement notice and to start with wouldn't let us take it back on the road. As our yard was literally 2 mins from the stop they let us take it back at 10 mph. We took the wheel off and it just needed a bolt tightening, took all of 2 minutes to repair. It took longer trying to get the notice removed!
