  1. My grounds lads (2 men) laid a base, flagged it and built a 8x6 in half a day!! My local timber yard looks at 6-10 sheds a day installed depending on distance and sizes, again 2 lads. It's only 6 bits, 7 at the most then the roof felt!! £100 top money for a shed install assuming base is down
  2. Contact beadsworth nursery. It's 1/3 mile off the Jn26 roundabout of the M62 and they take chip
  3. Like you say it's CA so notification, as far as I know the only way the council can add a condition is to force a TPO first.
  4. First and foremost I am not a LOLER inspector but this is info I have had in the past. Man made fabrics are given 10 years life from manufacture, that's manufacture of the fibre which makes the fabric not the harness. That fibre could be made into webbing then site on a shelf for a few months before going to the harness manufacturer and sit for a few months then onto your arb shop as a harness and sit for a few months before you buy it. This therefore means your 10 year fabric lifespan does not translate to 10 years of harness life. It's difficult if not impossible to accurately judge this time from manufacture to first use so a safety margin is built in, this is usually given as 5 years to be ultra safe leaving 5 years of use. 50% safety margins are fairly standard through a lot of industries. I had a harness which was regularly used for 3 years then moved to the rescue kit. For the next 2 years it only came out of the bag for training and LOLER. At the point of 5 years from 1st use this harness was deemed suitable by my LOLER inspector to remain in the rescue kit for a further 12 months with the reasons being excellent condition, lack of use for the last 2 years giving no wear and lack of exposure to UV extending the life of the man made fibres. 6 months later I replaced it and moved my day to day harness to rescue kit. I now buy a new harness every 2.5 years so it does 2.5 years full use then 2.5 years as rescue then bin. Therefore to answer your original question your 5 years can be subjective, your harness could be knackered in 6 months but could last 6 years. Based on price however even an expensive harness is only £1 a week if you keep it 5 years, how much is your life worth?
  5. Do you mean the slide box for the feed wheel? Yes it was annoying. I found that if you reach up the back of the plastic each morning and ensure there are no branches there keeping the fine dust from falling out then it just tends to sort itself.
  6. And you quoted a £50 difference in the cost of the gate!! Where is your issue? We have both priced the jobs identical and you are arguing the case. I do very little ag fencing, the majority is for my own animals so have a damned good idea regarding livestock behavior. Anything big I will contract out and concentrate on what I am good at as I don't have the kit to make money on long lengths.
  7. A 16ft gate you say is around £100 and a post above says you will hang it for £50. Where I am 100+50=150. Where do you get "blatant rip off" from??:confused1:
  8. Thats about the same level of conversation as I got for the 4.5 hour drive back
  9. 5er a meter, a bit more for each corner/change of direction if this means more strainers, £100 for the small gate, £150 for the big gate. I would be plus VAT
  10. We might not want you there but since your dear lady needs a chauffeur then we can cope for a day or 2:001_tt2::001_tt2::001_tt2:
  11. I bought a bigger torque wrench. You could destroy the machine if you don't torque them up right and would have no come back on the warranty. Foe info I did mine up to 210 then increased to 310, it took just under 1/4 turn
  12. I've met Rich before, if he wants a burger he can have one. You Mr Eggs can tell him otherwise if you wish!! I'm bringing a load of sausages etc, donations will be accepted and all proceeds will go to the childrens trust
  13. You are doing your own work therefore you are self employed!! You can be employed through the week and self employed on a weekend. I assume you are registered with HMRC Lets hope your employment contract allows you to work for others whilst employed. I know my employment contracts state you cannot approach people to complete work the company is capable of completing without written permission of the director.
  14. Be sensible. You were cutting down a tree and being paid for it, your name was on the job and you were doing it with assistance (all be it you didn't want that assistance). You must legally insure anyone that helps you. What would have happened if you dropped a chog and hit the home owner with it or the home owner tripped and fell over the brash pile he had moved? Either ensure your work area is clear of people or carry the correct insurances. Tree work is great money without the overheads!! With regards to aerial rescue see Working and tree climbing without any emergency procedures . He was 15ft up and fines £7.5k. You tell me when a tree becomes big enough to need a rescue climber and would you argue the same in a court? If everyone played by the rules without exception then the whole industry would be looked at as a more professional trade, prices would go up and so would wages. Instead people are doing rough work, not following all the rules and undercutting professional outfits which ultimately brings down the prices for one and all. The man that does a £300 special on a Saturday and bangs the whole lot in his pocket thinks making money on trees is dead easy and the people running tree co's must be stacking up the cash. This customer tells all his friends and neighbours that the pro companies that also quoted the work are all out to rob you so stick to using the understaffed, uninsured companies and save a few quid!! Yes it's a rant and I will probably get flamed for it but where do you draw the line??
  15. Climbing without a rescue climber is in breach of HSE best practice - lack of suitably qualified rescue climber available so yes that is unprofessional. As soon as anyone helps on your job be it paid or unpaid, someone you take or the home owner they are employed by you. You therefore need to carry suitable employers liability insurance, this is one of the 2 LEGALLY required insurances in the UK. You don't state whether you hold employees insurance but do say you have no employees so I make no assumptions just state facts.
  16. I'll chuck a bit more bambi in the cool box then, come see us for tea
  17. Message from Mr Plogs - If anyone wants any cider then text him and he will take it to the show.
  18. The £8 is the camping fee, booked through that events website.
