  1. Introduction: determining whether an individual is an employee or self-employed
  2. What kind of survey? How are you recording the info? Do you need to write it up on a computer afterwards? Are you providing maps? All depends on how long the whole job will take. I work from a day rate so just estimate the amount of time divide/multiply the day rate.
  3. You're probably right but I thought I'd give him a chance to prove himself...the clock's ticking
  4. Have you copied and pasted that from Dolmar's official marketing information, or do you work for them? Discussion about saws is encouraged here, but advertising is not.
  5. This thread is 5 years old. The AEMG link in his signature works.
  6. You cannot be serious about those pictures on your website?!
  7. Of course. It's a job that needs doing by arbs with integrity. I'm just trying to diversify to more satisfying areas of work.
  8. That's why I don't really like doing development site surveys. You can only kid yourself that you're doing good for the urban forest for so long.
  9. To put it in context, I removed a post which simply said "Muslims" which in the context of this thread assigns everybody of that religion to be a waste of space. I would have also removed a post that said "Christians" or "Jews" or whatever other faith group. Debate is fine but we try to run this site to be inclusive and non-offensive whether by gender, religion, sexual orientation etc. It's pretty simple really, just have a think before you post. If it could come across as offensive then re-word it.
  10. Some Arb consultants advertise their "% success rate" with planning work i.e bs5837 style surveys and reports. I wonder whether they just refuse to work for clients with unworkable design proposals? Let's remember, when you're engaged by a client to do a pre-development tree survey (and possibly the AIA and AMS) you are being engaged as one element in a process which has one primary aim: to get planning permission! So, I would certainly suggest solutions where appropriate. I find the main problem with this work is that the client (and sometimes the LA) either don't know what they need or give a very vague instruction.
  11. It was brilliant! I'd love to do the longer route you did! I'd go back for another tour in a flash but at the moment a young family and new business doesn't allow it. One day!
  12. Pleurotus ostreatus - Oyster - David Humphries’s Fungi Directory - Arbtalk.co.uk | Discussion Forum for Arborists
  13. Nice! I cycled from Goa to Chennai in 2007, brilliant it was.
  14. Yes, looks like Daedaleopsis confragosa to me.
  15. A one metre diameter branch is HUGE! What's the diameter of the trunk? Would it be possible to shorten the branch less drastically and install a brace to help reduce the likelihood of its failure?
  16. If you start a Ltd company and are the director, you can draw dividends from the company as income. You don't get taxed on dividends as the company will have already paid 20% corporation tax, so basically you save a few percent in tax. Ltd companies need to supply more paperwork to HMRC (and Companies House) each year but if you have an accountant it shouldn't cause too much trouble.
  17. I agree. I haven't watched it for a few years now.
  18. Have a look at Wix (google it). They have got excellent templates that you can use - add your own text, logo and pics and away you go.
