  1. id love to work at kew.not sure i could handle london though
  2. morning of saw maintenance in the shed with the radio on for me,afternoon of moving some windblown yew in the drizzle. got in the truck to go home and the downpour started again.took an exta 40 mins to get home because every river crossing was flooded
  3. fbt and forest machine journal have joined.its now known as forestry journaand any subscirptions will be moved over. with regards essential arb we can only assume that it is no more, and the arb and amenity matters sectin of forest and machine journall(now forestry journal) will take over. although fmj is or fbt are good publications, i am a arborist and looked forward to the copys of essential arb.
  4. log ologist, where are you based. ive used that same platform many times
  5. the dcs5000 may have the smaller bar but what it makes up for in speed and weight is amazing, felling trees twice its bar size is easy and when it comes to ringing up its absolutly brilliant.also with the weight and power ratio its a pleasure to climb with
  6. its been a while since i posted on this thread, i ended up taking off the shackle because my spliced eye wouldnt fit through the pully and ive replaced it with a small krab.but i shall be buying the art version at the aa show
  7. i agree with roller, ive been using the dcs5000 makita saw since the aa show and its great
  8. ive used sb plant invigorator before, and it seemed to do the trick
  9. your weight can easily be held whist using a pully, its all about method
  10. it must depend on area then.one of the firms i contract for tended for some councill work and they wanted to see tickets which one of his lads didnt have, so he hadto get him assesed quickly as possible.
  11. it depends in which sector you wish to work in or how you want your buisness to grow,ie for councill contracts they ask to see copies of your tickets.
  12. how much was your xbox, nice stereo, big television? im not looking for an argument but if you want to get something then you save up for it.i bet there are plenty of people on here who have saved the cash to pay for their tickets, it just depends how much you want it. dont get me wrong though im not justifying the cost though as i ponted out earlier
  13. dont get me wrong, i never said that its a perfect system by any stretch of the imagination, the point i was making was that ive allways saved up for my courses and allways really wanted to be there.it took me a while to work through my tickets but i think that made me a better climber because i was practising between tickets.yes the competance review system needs to be looked at, ie a weeks course that goes over everything(within reason) for say 500 pounds.everyone can afford that
  14. just going to throw this out there, probably get some flak for this but do you think that the higher prices mean that you get people on the courses who really want to be there.i personally have saved my pennies to go on courses and i think that made me keaner to pass the assesment
  15. yeah i think its a good idea.we are a small industry relativly speaking so its good to network .also we can all hook up for a beer at the shows
  16. i would buy the 88 over the 66 purely because when you need that bigger saw you will want the bigger(88) saw. there is little point strugling.the guy i climb for has only a small firm, me, him and a groundie. but when you do the bigger trees you need the bigger saw. last month took down 2, 4ft montery pines, after felling and processing one stem the 88 packed in, ok i felled the other with a saw with a 25inch bar on it but there was little point struggling to process it, so i waited till the 88 was back in action
  17. the newer makita models are nolonger essentially dolmars in a different out fit
  18. the guy i contract to bought one at the aa show, i think his cash was burning a hole in his pocket.he thought it would be great for reductions and conifer work. ive used it once and its stayed in the tool box in the truck ever since
  19. the smallest model is only 22cc so its completely gutless
  20. yep ive used the tiny one as well, utter cr*p
  21. platforms have there uses. ie when it is unsafe to climb. i used a platform to dismantle an oak tree at night. the tree was on a main road and we were unable to close the road so out came the flood lights and platform. problem solved
  22. whos used them, what are peoples views on them.ive used the dcs5000 and thought it to be a very good saw.
