Been using my XP a lot just lately. Got mine loosened up now after probably 40 or 50 tanks through it. Sure is a power house, but I think mine will get a wee mod when its out of warranty. Its an old saw design that has lasted well. The 575 was supposed to replace it years ago, it came and went and now theres the 576. Still not a patch on the 372. I wonder how much longer this impressive saw can still remain on the market before it is squished by emissions bull?

Ragwort is nat as bad as some make out. I know a farmer who buys many acres of grass full of it and makes hay from it. They say its when the stuff is dried out its poisonous, but hes never had a poorly horse.

In that case it depends on the village. First thing is, do they have gas? How affluent is the area? The two questions above lead to the only two types of customers you will get. Those who want to burn wood, and those who need to burn wood. Those who want to burn wood will be the biggest market, and possibly the most profitable, but also could be the most hassle.

But, you guys are missing an important point. My angle is, its not the weight that bothers me, its the super efficient, low emissions, tick every EU directive box engines. These things are a nightmare to set, maintain and repair. All of the leading manufacturers have had trouble with the new generation engines/carburettors and has been a nightmare for dealers also. Our local saw shop had an open day the other day and Stihl were there doing a demo. A guy was running a 362 crosscutting. The saw was not happy, he had to blip the throttle and get the revs up before every cut. Obviously was running too lean. So I asked him why he didnt give it a quarter turn and richen it up. He said he couldnt, it was running at its optimum! WTF? So I asked, can you really tell me you think its running right, to which his reply was Well thats how they will all run eventually. He then showed me another saw(not sure on model) and said it had an automatic adjuster and set itself. When he saw my puzzled face he continued by saying, he believed in the near future it will become illegal to adjust a carb. He said Im not sure how they will police it but the EU are currently trying to make it illegal to tamper with any equipment that will alter its emissions.

That is a bit of a problem and would need another to do that idea. Its over 1800kg dry weight:001_rolleyes:

Cheers for that Robert, Im going to look at a 125 single cab tomorrow but I feel he wants too much for it. Its trade but £5500 +VAT for a 65k miler on a 52 plate. Apparently the 125's are hard to find with low mileage on:sneaky2:

A certain amount is likely to be due to the tighter emissions restrictions. I still cant see how they would manage to make it SO much heavier though! Unfortunately, years ago saw manufacurers were always trying to improve performance, durability and build quality. Now, all they are trying to do is reduce emissions and anti-vibe (rightly so) to tick the correct boxes for marketing restrictions in various countries. As a result some of the old qualities are being lost along the way IMO.
