  1. He was really serious, just imagine due to how much hassle they are, unreliable rot boxes, within 4 or 5 years there'll be none on the roads, they'll all be in scrap yards!😳

    Drone?

Just had a quick look and it seems the price of drones has dropped a lot in the last year or two. Anyone any recommendations as there seems loads of possibilities now, range, pic quality, built in camera, battery size, etc, etc. Just want something to take a few bits of work & possibly play😎
  3. Someone the other day told me they were thinking of stopping making the defender. Anyone else heard of this?
  4. Totally agree with the above. Below is open for debate though. Maintaining access is different to reinstatement.
  5. Cheers for the feedback, seems the overall swaying is towards birch then. The original accusation was it being birch but the direction the roots are pointing in, it didn't seem immediately possible and they're pointing towards the poplar. In an ideal world it would be best to expose the roots and trace back but there's minefield of politics due the the neighbourly dispute it's caused.
  6. Not something we get involved in really, usually we can ID the bit of tree above ground! Here is physical lifting of pavers caused by roots from one of two trees. The culprits are Lombardy and common Betula. Just trying to make sure we're accusing the right tree without excavating the property. Anyone know for sure?
  7. I think you've guessed what I want it for Steve! Haha! I think the 950 will fit as very similar as you say, just a bigger bore I think. So, if there's a 950 going that'll be fine!
  8. As title, I've been looking for a good used one of these for a very long time now. Posting here hoping there's a slim chance of someone having one👍
  9. Reports are a little thin on the ground about the 193 yet but I'd be interested too to hear anyone's opinions on it. I do however have a lot of experience with the 192. Mine was one of the very first made and served me well, to be rebuilt last year back to its former glory. Yes, it's less power than a 200 but its not supposed to do what a 200 does! Mine was muffler modded when new though, and realistically it will almost keep up with a 200, most certainly better than the early 201s. If the 193 is comparable to its predecessor, you need to weigh up if it's upto your work. That is, if you only intend to buy one topper for now and you do mainly dismantles this isn't the best option. If you do mainly formative pruning it'll be great. In a perfect world you'd have a full size topper and a 192/3. Hope that helps.
  10. What if 2.25" boards end up being needed?
  11. Ok, I tried the quick answer but obviously need to elaborate. If it's simply cut for the sake of cutting it, you can limit your market, dramatically! You will possibly get someone who'll take it but give the "oh, I'd prefer it was in half inch thicker" etc so will bid you. If the log is a year felled, it won't make much difference to it if it waits another year until the right client comes along. It can be cut to his sizes and you can dictate the price. All above is assuming the illusive millionaire woodworker comes along. IMO, there aren't many of them, so, don't limit your market. Yes it's a lovely wood when worked, yes it's durable too but there is lots of it around. Possibly the reason most of it gets put in the stove. As for price, when selling these so called cherished timbers the buyers can offer significantly enough above firewood values, it will continue to get burned. Oh, and it is an excellent firewood. Gives great heat, little ash and doesn't spit. Probably my favourite softwood firewood. Hope that explains my opinion a little more, just speaking from personal experience. I've milled lots then put it on my stove.
  12. Find someone who wants it, then cut it how they want. Failing that, cut it for firewood:thumbup1:
  13. The slight imperfections you can see were nothing to worry about on this hinge. It breaking, the tree swinging sideways and smashing a greenhouse, two sheds and the clients 2 year old Bentley...... now that was something to see!

In good order its likely to bring well over the £700 mark. Folk seem to want to go for the manual oiler these days as milling has become more popular.

What's wrong with that? It's still less than half price of a new one?
  16. Yeh, heard that one myself too. In this case though, it happens to be true:thumbup1: 99% of the time I would of, but as this pic was going on the interweb, I thought I'd show the right way to do it!
  17. As it happens, since I broke it in 2003, yes!😛 Customer asked for high stumps for digger removal. Any comments about the hinge?😘
  18. Almost through the hinge there Darrin? 😜 Would love to hear criticism on this one!😉
  19. Nice variety of clips there Matty, I enjoyed that, especially the speedlining bits. What set up do you usually use for running on the line?

    110 Tipper.

BUT, where does it say it has to be?

Yes, I agree there's lots and lots of info around detailing the manufacturers differences, but it's not upto them! This subject keeps arising and has been chewed over time and again, BUT, no one ever seems to be able to produce any literature stating what the "authorities" require😳

Just to clarify scraggs, where did you get the info from? I'd love to see the actual facts written down, I mean a spec list from such as VOSA or DOT?
  23. Cheers for the 365 info fellas, has clarified it for me. 👍
  24. Yeh, I've got an x-torq 365 but it's not as good as the non x-torq 372 I have. Re potting an older 365 maybe cheaper than buying an older 372 though👍 Just so doesn't get any more confusing, what's the difference between standard and special 365 then?😜
