  1. i understand about cutting it low, but your bar was massive for the tree, so why would you want to make it narrower at the base?
  2. Funnily enough, thats what i was going to ask about! Tim, can you explain why you cut off the feathers as it is not a good practice to get into? Nice bit of timber though:thumbup1:
  3. Now that brings back memories! Well done to you all, hope all went well:thumbup1:
  4. Couple of good links there Burrell, i didnt know anyone still made a two man machine anymore. In fact thats what i was told stopped the production of the stihl machine, it was too much for two men to handle! I guess it could be a good laugh for anyone watching when the auger hits something, to see two burley blokes being flicked around like a couple of rag dolls, but believe me, its not so funny if you have hold of the handles! We learned if you hold it with some intension, but with the thought if it were to hit something you could let go! Once you let go of it, you need to teach yourself to keep your legs out of the way otherwise your buddy's handles would kneecap you! The thought of something like that with more power seems suicidal to me:001_huh:
  5. Our saw shop been selling them for about 5 years Phil, but no where near that much money! Think they are £50 or £60 but are good on straight timber. Note the usual selling routine using girl in skirt and only nice straight easy splitting stuff. You could probaly do as well with a small hatchet. Just my opinion, but ive had a try with one:thumbdown:
  6. Thats been the situation here for around 8 years now:thumbdown: I was turned away, (with a permit) for having the back of the landy full of black bin liners on the 27th Decemeber because the back of the truck was sign written. Having a permit doesnt mean you CAN tip, it only means you can use your commercial vehicle to tip your domestic waste. If they suspect its commercial waste they can still turn you away
  7. Ok, I'm curious now, how would more power be better? The Stihl 2 man borer i have will spin two large, fit men around with it if you give it too much throttle in the wrong situation. Its always got enough poke to bore either with a 3" screw or the big beast. If you hit something hard in the hole or push too hard even on good going it will make you suffer. Its NEVER been short of power, so why would you want more power on a one man machine?
  8. No worries fella, we're here to help each other if we can:thumbup1:
  9. What size holes are you digging? Is this just for one job, or is it something you would get lots of use from in the future? Reason i ask is i have a stihl 2 man, i may hire/ sell it, dependant on price. It has 3", 5" and 10" augers. I know you may have bad memories of these, but believe me a one manner is not funny after one of these. Let me know if you are interested.
  10. It still amazes me how it is physically possible for anyone to create stuff by hand like you do Tommy. Truely amazing:001_smile:
  11. Some pics of the actual job would be good too Mark:001_smile:
  12. Get a 90 degree bend of dranage pipe, put two feet of pipe in each end then put your rope through and as you decend over the edge sit the elbow over the corner. It wont move Mark:thumbup: Edit, just seen the mobile bit Mark
  13. Environmental Health state between 9am and 5pm Mon to Fri and 9 am to 12pm saturday. Surprising how little time you can work if its by the book.
  14. Strangely enough, a gum did end up on the list. Do you know which one?
  15. Seriously, its a nasty trick how i see it Dean, they must have known it would cause some major hassle to someone, otherwise like adam says, they would have got rid of it out of site. Will your camera work as far out as the main gate? Just wondering for a possible next time:thumbdown:
  16. He never closed the gate either:blushing:
  17. Very nice Dan, you must be chuffed. And welcome too:thumbup1:
  18. Asking for help here, has anyone got a basic tree list (say 10-12 species) of small ornamentals suitable for garden plantation that includes pictures? Got dragged into a job to remove some conifers, but the guy wants a replant species list from me as part of the job, but obviously doesnt want conifers:001_rolleyes: Cheers in advance:thumbup1:
  19. Really? The first pic shows our little camp with my maroon sprint in the foreground and the other three mates bikes. Were you near us on the site?
  20. Sorry, should have said, i am east yorks, near the end of the M62. Cheers for the PM Keith, and all the others who have contacted me so far:thumbup1:
  21. Coming on very well, looks real nice, keep us up to date:thumbup:
  22. Any more developments? Cant wait to see more pics:thumbup1:
  23. Rob, it will be fine as long as you give it enough fuel afterwards! Removing the baffle and spark arrestor(if fitted) is the first and best improvement. Then, if you are technical/mathematical you can work out the surface area of the exhaust port(where the muffler bolts onto) while the muffler is off, then make the exit hole of the muffler 80% of the surface area of the port. Adjust jetting and you're away!
