My point was in reaction to the question "can it be changed?" It cant. Not bothered who fixes it, you used to be able, on older vehicles to change the taxation class. No longer. Many of the rules changed in April this year and Land Rover do not offer fixing points for trucks such as the utility now in the "van" back. The manufacturers removing such options can then pass the blame onto the owner if he were to claim VAT back on a commercial then convert it in an "unauthorised manner" into a "car"

No Dave, your tin of beans would be relative to a stem leaning back possibly, but not a tree with a canopy posiibly 40 or 60 feet wide backleaning. Its to do with percentage you move the hinge in relation to the canopy not the stem width. I totally agree with you about getting the hinge far enough back to gain a good wide hinge, but pushing it back to overcome the COG is not mathematically correct. If a COG of a tree was say 3 feet behind the hinge, moving that hinge back say 6 or 8 inches will hardly reduce the weight backwards. However, it will increase the force needed at the rear of the back cut to push the tree over, especially if the back cut is now only say 6 or 8 inches long from the hinge. That force needed has almost doubled, yet negligable effect to the COG. I have tried and explain this before Dave, and possibly aren't too good at it, but hope this time ive done it better:blushing: If however, as you say you dont use wedges to push the tree over, and just a pull line, i guess it doesnt matter a hoot how deep the gob is!

Commercial road tax for new trucks is to be £200 per year. As for station wagons it will be around £950 for the first year, then £435 per year then on. Land Rover have now removed the option to fit seats in rear of commercials, and likewise the fittings to retro fit. Any fitment (retro) will be seen as not in accordance with manufacturer and therefore will not be covered on insurance. It is also no longer possible to change the taxation class following a certain date(not sure what that is though). All new vehicles now are fixed as manufactured.

I would say width of hinge is more crucial than depth of gob

You're just scared you may have to give an award to the winner.

Only just seen this thread:001_rolleyes: It IS possible to climb over 15 stone, and i could prove that! Just never expect to tip prune:lol: You will manage fella, but try and lose some. The more, the easier it will get. Keep an eye on your weight as you get older. Not sure on your age, but I'm 42 now and its starting to get to my joints now. Good luck:thumbup1:

Everyone has an an opinion. Heres mine; I always spike on a pruning. Being a fat lad, its better to give the tree a good spiking rather than stand on every branch and snap it off due to an extreme weight on it:sneaky2:
