  1. All these projects are starting with no thought to where all the wood will come from ! It's all well and good 'encouraging landowners' to manage derelict woodland but they'll expect an income which you just give them untill chip prices rise.
  2. Got any pictures David ? any have you got your new yard sorted yet lol Yes Dick Robinson has one there is a picture on his home page.

Oh and the chipper lifts up and down on the 3 point linkage as well, I have driven off many a time with the chipper still down, ripped the back leg off once and had to weld a new bracket on.

The legs should be lifted when on / off road they just slide down with a lynch pin through a hole. Gives better clearance when on rough ground. It's just a feature of that particular chipper. It enables you to travel with the chipper in a locked off ready to chip postion.

Lol yes it was you dirty buggers lol The legs are to support the chipper Butch, you can lift them, lock off the chipper on the hydrulics and tow a small evenly balanced trailer off the back of the chipper as a chip bin.....
  7. Shame you didn't post this a couple of days ago when i was in a wind blown plantation of spruce in Dyfi forest N Wales lol..........
  8. Ta, I'm looking for an off the shelf soloution because that will be cheaper or i'll do something myself with a hydrulic power pack. I know there is one available just don't know who makes it !!
  9. When i was living in surrey i saw somebody with an ifor williams looking trailer with a timber crane fitted. Does anybody know where you can get these from ?? Google just brings up the stupidly over priced riko alpine ones. Ta.
  10. Higher than that unfortunatly, 14' is what you need....
  11. Get someone else to climb while you sit in the van, smoke fags and make phone calls
  12. Dave can you get an articulated lorry in there with a walking floor trailer ? And could the farmer load the lorries with a telehandler or similar ?
  13. Call Peter Logan on 07973 655880 or My old landlord Anthony Fielding on 07710 357888 that's the farm landlord Stuart not the woods.

Ha ha ha guys, yes Giles it is my old Mog. The head gasket went on it back in May ( have a look there is a thread on here somewhere) I had a new head gasket, head bolts, head skimmed etc etc the other problem was the centre and rear prop shaft bearings shattered. I've spent 8k on it since May and you have reaped the benefits of that. The chipper is spot bollock just watch putting very small pieces through as they tend to get stuck behind the left hand side feed roller. Make sure you top the oil up each week as it uses about a litre a week. If you have any queries drop me a line on 07515 062186 I'll be more than happy to help, that Mog will last you a long time now. I would have kept the front linkage on though as it enables you to carry the chipper to site and tow a trailer which you'll find is very valuable on big takedowns. Good luck !!
  15. I must admit I've never had to start a 200 with my teeth !!
  16. Ha that looks fun, I hate climbing wellies till you get to the top then it's worth it

    Good pilot

He could fly cross controlled and maybe have some form of stabilisation using the torque of the prop to hold her. However I very much doubt he would have landed it like that !!!
  18. I'd echo what Ed said and in addtion add that when i worked at a private school as a groundsman many years ago i came from a forestry team and was a little dis-heartened to see they had a mculloch chainsaw. I was stuck with it for 6 months untill the budget changed and we could get a stihl. The only issues i had with it was it under-oiled the chain. Apart from that i was presently suprised at it's performance, performance which for the gentleman posting this thread would be more than adequate.

  21. I converted to a VT before i bought my rope guide on impulse. Probably the best bit of my personal climbing kit, it makes life alot easier. HOWEVER retrival is a right PITA most of the time. You musn't cinch it up to tight against your anchor point and avoid tight forks like the plague even ones that you think a tradtional cambium saver would come through will catch out the RG. When blocking down i would reset to move down several times in descent and it was brilliant for this. Makes coming down for a brew when the clients made one just after you've got BACK up the tree much easier as well
  22. I have LOADS of wood split and un-split trouble is it's in Hampshire and I'm in Staffordshire !
  23. Ahh the old Beverley Hills Cop trick lol I used to be followed all the time in the Mog I used to just drive into the traveller site next to my yard, they never followed me in there
  24. I'd echo what Ed said. I've had Mogs and tractors and for what you propose I'd look seriousley at a Valtra around 150-200 hp. Fastracs well early ones anyway had quite a lot of transmission problems which put me off buying one and Fendt are just to damn expensive. Get a Valtra / Valmet with front and rear linkage, rear steer and a decent forestry crane on a frame behind the cab. Avoid roof mount as it limits reach more than you'd think. Matt.
