Steve your better off using Vickery in a situation like that. Haulage is always a nightmare to be honest ! Just tell Charlie you'll sell the wood chip from your yard elsewhere if they don't re-imburse you for downtime on this site.

Fair enough Stick a sign in it 'FREE WOODCHIP' I reckon the locals will have nicked it all by Thursday lol
  3. I looked into that Marc You need a specific industry skill to do IRATA unless you want to clean windows for ever ! For example a trained electriction or construction engineer that then gets qualified to work at height.

  7. I'm thinking of going back into counter terrorism as it's a growth Market
  8. I used to hire that machine alot and really liked it tbh. Ed is right though i wouldn't call it narrow access compliant lol. Also used the Predator from time to time and that was noticeably quicker than the Vermeer, much quicker to change the teeth on the duradisk system as well.
  9. When I ran my business in Surrey I found Sparsholt students to be some of the best in the industry. The problem is not so much the colleges but what they have to work with. The job looks glamorous in the brochures but we all know the reality, sadly the play station generation would rather sit in Tescos and text there mates all day when they find out what the real job involves. So my opinion is it's more about the caliber of the person going on the course than the colleges themselves. My personal feeling is that similar to the Merrist Wood policy of ten years ago students should do work experience before being allowed on these courses, even better an apprenticeship scheme would be the way forwards. I heard that the colleges receive the funding for year one even if the student drops out after a few weeks which has to be a strong motivating force to take on dead beats ! Gimmer / Mark drunk coffee in my home once before we took on a Sparsholt student and came across as a thoroughly decent sort of a bloke. It's a shame a new thread wasn't started to take this to, someone will take that job and hopefully contribute to some decent lads and lasses coming into the industry when us twisted old bastards are on our way out !
  10. A very good friend of mine was once anecedotally telling me stories about clearing DZ's in a foreign jungle. Just the right amount of explosive does the trick on clearing trees but the lads had a competition to see how high they could blast the trees. He's got some awesome old photo's of trees, stumps and soil in mid air lol
  11. Went to work with my old man at EVERY available oportunity from the age of about 5 driving any and every piece of machinery from tracked dumpers to 200hp tugs pushing mud barges, from steam dredgers and draglines to long reach Hymacs. First picke up a chainsaw at about 15 to do some supervised crosscutting so that gives me 17 years with chainsaws. Didn't start climbing with rope and harness until I was 18 and a mate made me a kit out of nylon 3 strand !
  12. NHS mate that's who made it, PTO unit on the back of a little tractor. Mr Ed just shouted it across the office lol
  13. No defo wasn't that one mate, I know TP's as I used to have one. Depends when you went. It was about 4 years ago i went up there following the AA show of that year.
  14. It's not a TP or a Petzalato, wish i could remember !

Good access ? add 2 ton to it and flog it to AHS Kevin ?
  16. I looked at a very similar Pezzalto system some years ago. They sell alot into parks authorities for which is ideal. KEW Gardens have one which i went to look at.
  17. I'd recommend drilling holes in the stump and filling it with either...RDX,PETN or HMX. Be carefull though nasty stuff, works everytime though with very impressive results !

    Climbing kit

I thought it was a perfectly valid point and it would probably lead to less admin for you ? Lots of forums i go on have the suggested sticky post. Never mind..back to CHAS.

Oh oh slap hand lol.. Not trying to be confrontational BUT why don't you stick up a sticky post that comes up at the top of the new posts list entitled 'Newbies read this first' or something with suggestions on search tips etc ?

What is it with these threads ! Look at the advertisers index on this site or do a search on google, it's not rocket science mate and I'm assuming your fairly intelligent to have found this site, signed up and posted ! Would have been quicker to search for Arboricultural suppliers in Hampshire ! FWIW I recommend Honey Brothers in your area.
  21. Depends who you work for and how fastitdious you are but generally YES !
  22. I'm sorry I'm going to be harsh here, with an ill thought out brief post like that you are telling me that your not in a postion to be even thinking about starting your own business yet. Are you being asked to do work yet ? What do you need to earn a day to survive ? Take into account basic business overheads and all your personal overheads. What's the minimum kit you can survive with ? Like Yorkshireman I started with a flat bed 3.5 tonner and very little kit. I'd suggest using the search facility on arbtalk to research topics that are concerning you and then maybe construct a new post with specific queries. Most important thing ? Self dicipline.
  23. Thanks Iain may well be picking your brains in the next few weeks mate !
  24. I completly disagree mate ! Cash flow is a directly linked to base lines and profitability regardless of the size of your clients or turnover of your business. If your a small biz doing just domestic work but all your kits on tick and you have high overheads your far more likely to have cash flow problems than somebody who owns most of their kit outright doing the same work. They are also generally speaking able to react to market fluctuations alot easier with lower overheads as well. The same goes with the larger contracts, high overheads and big finance will lead to disaster on the cash flow front. Bottom line is do what ever work suits your skill level, personal circumstances, and overheads. It's taken me 10 years to build the relationships I have now with the larger clients. I would still take on domestic work though as I enjoy it and sometimes it suits.
