  1. Ben, Have you asked Stuart at DM in Loughborough? Cheers Matt
  2. Got it in one! We do your right.
  3. I'm not sure about the socks, but I can say from experiance that chainsaw trousers under normal waders really isn't that comfortable. as the waders are not usually designed to be worn with trousers so thick.
  4. they are not in my current catalouge, I'll look tomorrow at work if the brain remembers!
  5. I think it is Stihl, We have a few pairs at work. If I remember I'll have a look to see who makes them and ask the gaffer where he got em from if it helps.
  6. Don't waste your time going to DM in Loughborough then, They are haven't got their card machine yet.
  7. Yes on one CC job they were not happy as a lad only had a Lantra felling ticket. I too have worked for a large number of organisations that are happy with a cert of competence but on 3 occasions I've been asked for NPTC by name.
  8. Well, Up here in the Mids I've worked large jobs for local CC, Education authority and Private colleges all wanted copy's of NPTC Certs + chapter 8 were relevant and insaurance. I think its changing since the habit of employing dedicated H&S Officers.
  9. done mine, It would be good to have forum meet at the shows. Be even better if we had Arbtalk T-shirts so we could recognise each other.
  10. I priced a new 660 up and I could have it at 840 all in. Next shows are AA trade fair Cirencester in June then the biggy APF @ Cannock in September.
  11. Don't know if it ever got filled I think it probably did, it was advertised at 25K a year. like you say a well qualified person I only posted to show that our local council isn 't keen to train from scratch.
  12. Our local college will let you do CS38 Climb tree & perform rescue, without CS30. But CS 39 cannot be done until CS30,31&38 have been done, well thats what the dafty training co-ordinator told me.
  13. That may well have been the case a few years ago, not now! As Roller says councils are well aware of that trick now, Our Local CC advertised a Arborist position last year these are the certs of competance they wanted CS 30,31,38,39 ideally 32 &34 as well Chapter 8 streetworks HGV C+E+Hiab Chipper ticket PA1&PA6 Spraying First aid Thats a hell of a lot of training they wanted to fill a post getting on our local council gang now is very hard.
  14. 640 inc for a 660?! where from?! Only seen them priced like that at the shows.
  15. There are a lot of firms that won't allow radio muffs. I'll use my ear phones if I'm log splitting as the splitter is so quite I can still hear people talk to me, but if I'm sawing, climbing or operating any other machinery then no way will I wear them.
  16. It is tax deductable but, You need to be very sure they will stay about and work for you after you have paid for their training.
  17. i'm only being nosey here! were you actually pulled off the M6 or near the M6? I'm only curious as I've never seen a mog on a motorway! I am aware of one contractor up penrith way that had a short term permission to run Fastracs on the M6 north of Penrith.
  18. I wish when I had left school there was an arb aprentaship, similar to the one i did in engineering. The only way into Arb when I left school was to go to college for 2 years full time. Ok it would have got me my tickets but I wouldn't have had any money. Or a great deal of experiance in the the real world. I choose engineering worked a 12 week summer period from leaving school then went to college as well during term time, I lernt so much doing both.
  19. Put to one side what colour fuel it runs on, I'm all for anything Taxed as agricultural to have a ministry test. Tractors and mogs are capable of towing very large quantities up to that of an artic, So why not make sure the kit is up to scratch? I'm going to really chuck myself out for attack now by saying I think all trailers between 750kg -3500kg should be tested and plated. Now before you shoot me down I've got 3 of em and I'd be happy to have them tested as I have nothing to hide. It makes me cringe some of the trailers and chippers I see profesional well respected out fits towing. And yep some of us have had to prove we can tow large trailers to the man from the ministry! and pay for the privilidge!
  20. I'd like to know what size machine the excavator one runs on and how much it is roughly? i'm to sat down with a sweat cupa tea and some chocolate!
  21. Just give DM a buzz before you leave if you plan to go there. just incase they've all got lost over the hols! plus its a hard place to find on your first trip, Stuart will give you directions if you ring first. Good Luck and let us know what you buy. Like your truck.
  22. Well thats fairly handy for most of the suppliers I listed earlier. DM are open bright and early on Wednesday. Higgots at Ibstock should be open Monday for a few HRs.
  23. Where abouts exactly are You? These are all Leicestershire dealers/outlets, Higgots @ ibstock Mitchells @ Coalville The above two only do saws/machinery DM Chainsaws Loughborough They will supply machinery and all arb related tackle. Deals can be had at the shows and you can save some money, but I've found its often spending a bit extra on a saw with your local outlet, then you reap the rewardsn when you need a favour or have a breakdown on a saturday lunch time just as they are closing, they are much more keen to help if you buy from them. Yes any sthil dealer should take a warranty claim but they'll be nicer to deal with if you bought it from them.
  24. Ben I totally agree, I've never used a mewp on one of my jobs only on other peoples. But If I asked you, or Stu or someone else to look at a job for me and you asked for a MEWP I'd be prepared to get one. I have a very open mind to how I run my business and I'll consider any suggestions to make things safer more productive or cost effective. after looking at a job I then price it accordingly, so if I choose a MEWP it would come out of the costs for the job, not the profit margin. I'd only choose a MEWP for genuine reasons, If I then didn't get the job cos Lado down the road will climb anything once, So be it thats life.
  25. That looks very similar mate! - You a commercial tart to then Ben? LOL
