Parched Japanese Maple in Zone 7 (Queens, NY)
Steve Bullman replied to Enlight's question in Homeowners Tree Advice Forum
Thats a pretty poor environment for that tree really, and I wouldnt expect it to thrive there. You mentioned the other tree is doing well...i'm guessing its not growing in quite the same environment? -

GreenMech strengthens support with expansions to dealer network
Steve Bullman posted a record in News
In order to deliver improved regional service and support to customers, GreenMech have announced a series of updates across their UK dealer network. The changes will see an extension to the existing territories of Vincent Tractors and Burdens Group, together with the appointment of B&B Tractors to provide new cover to the counties of Derbyshire and Staffordshire and Hopkins Machinery, who join the network as a Service Support dealer for South Wales. Effective immediately, longstanding GreenMech dealers for Cornwall Vincent Tractors and Plant will be taking on additional area to accommodate new and existing customers in Devon. Vincent Tractors and Plant pride themselves on supplying the premier technology and machinery solutions to customers across the agricultural, construction and groundcare industries, operating out of three depots across Devon and Cornwall – located in Fraddon, Holsworthy and Smithaleigh. Also expanding their territory is the Burdens Group who, in addition Lincolnshire, will now be covering the counties of Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. With a large fleet of equipment for both sale and rental, The Burdens Group have extensive experience with customers in various sectors including agriculture and professional groundcare. Their all-encompassing client-base has embraced the GreenMech range since they took on the franchise in 2016, and with a large after-sales and service division they are well placed to support new and existing customers. In order to develop the sales and after sales support across Derbyshire and Staffordshire, GreenMech have appointed leading agricultural machinery suppliers B&B Tractors. With a range of brands in their portfolio including Fendt, Sany and Honda, the family-run outfit are well connected to a broad client base and will be supporting the GreenMech franchise from their branches in Tideswell and Fauld. Finally, and completing the re-shuffle, is the appointment of Hopkins Machinery, who will be acting as a Service Support dealer for South Wales based out of their branch in Wentloog, Newport. Sales Director Martin Lucas commented, “Service is a critical part of the GreenMech offering, meaning we are always reviewing our distribution partners to ensure the very best support for our customers. We are confident that these changes will enhance our aftersales offering and extend our reach to new clients across these counties.” -
If I had my time again I would stretch before and after every climb.

Native industries ltd is a collaboration between Roland Heming and William Yeates. Rol Has been in Arboriculture for the past 26 years with work ranging from; Tree work for His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, Red bull UK , Husqvarna and later Lister Wilder at the Arb show and APF and a recreational Tree climbing Company which appeared on ITV’s adventures guide to Britain. He currently Runs Roland Heming Forest & Arb limited, a Training centre based in north Dorset offering both lantra and NPTC Training and assessment. Will’s Background started in procurement for a cutting edge adventure sports Company whose products ranged from flying cars to Jet surfboards, traveling around the globe meeting manufacturers gave him a great understanding of product design and materials. Will had always enjoyed the outdoors and set up his own business in landscaping, a chance meeting with Rol in early 2019 led to the setting up of Native industries ltd. The Native brand was born out of the need for a Personal bleed kit which actually met HSE compliance, was durable enough for the industry and affordable; as we say at Native, “First aid shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg”. Another key aspect was the suitably for climbing and ensuring the kit didn’t suffer any water a during the worst of the winter months. In 2020 we launched our first product the Native Personal Bleed Kit. It’s been a great success and has been taken on by large organisations and individuals alike. It comes in two colour choices our signature Vibrant Blue to really stand out or a more subtle Black and yellow combo, it’s compliant with HSE standards and all contents are CE approved. The Personal Kit did so well in the first year that we decided to expand our product range to include; Native Squad kit that not only backed up the Catastrophic bleed element but also provided other +F items such as a S.A.M. mouldable splint, tick removers and a fully BS8599 compliant First aid at work kit. The idea being you only need the one Kit to meet regulations at work and have the critical back up for your Forestry and Arb operatives- who of course are already carrying their personal bleed kits. Native Pro Rigging bag, when we designed this bag we were looking for a super simplistic design with durable materials and a suitable volume to hold a complete rigging kit. The idea being that it was easy to access, with loads of attachments for gear & biners and space to store everything you need for a take down in one bag. Lids have often got in the way and made loading rope awkward, so the removable stretch lid is there only if needed in rain or if to avoid filing with chip or sawdust. Native Twin Rope Bag, The twin rope bag was designed specifically for the inevitable adoption of two rope working; which now needs to be adhered to under the Working at height regulations. A large storage space is partitioned for two separate working ropes, with exiting for two main lines and large side pockets offer storage for your friction devices of choice. Giving you a truly independent two rope system all from one bag. This bag is at home in Arboriculture, caving and Rope access work. Its stretch lid designed to be mostly out of the way when not needed but there to keep things clean and dry when it was. You can even store your complete climbing kit, harness, flip line etc, on top of two 50m+ lines! Native 100 Litre Holdall: A super simple large capacity heavy duty kit bag that can carry a complete climbers kit with ease or pretty much anything else you want. With built in storage, throw cube and Silky holder in the lid for rapid access. Native throw Cube and Weights, Tough collapsible throw cube with internal attachment points and pockets. Weights in 300g and 500g chosen as these are the two weights we use most frequently. The heavier 500g weight being perfect for those big accents where getting the bag back to the ground can be challenging. We also have a great range of Native leisure wear available on our website. www.nativearb.co.uk At Native, as responsible manufacturers we think we should be supporting those in our industry who need it most, that is why we offer a 15% discount to all students who are undertaking an arboriculture course through a college, if you want to access this for your institution get in touch with us! We also work with select Lantra/NPTC trainers across the UK, so if your interested in Native Products get in touch!

Gotcha, thanks. I didn’t measure this but all the pieces I cut are identical so I guess it’s ok. Also did the first live with the blade at a slight angle so the whole stair case section is sitting at a slight angle -

Space is a bit of an issue for me but just finished racking out my small garage so could just squeeze this in. Think I’ll lose the side extensions to make it easier to store though -

You’ve lost me there -
I’ve finally conceded to the fact I just cannot cut a straight line to save my life. I can literally mark all sides of a piece of wood before cutting it and it still comes out on the skew on at least one of the angles. My daughter collects playing cards and I’m having a go at making her a display stand out of Oak. Hoping this comes out a little nicer than my usual Bodgit jobs so treated myself to a table saw

Curious as to what this tree is...

Tulip tree was my first thought. Leaves don’t look quite the norm though -
2 rope climbing are we sticking to the rules
Steve Bullman replied to Thesnarlingbadger's topic in Climbers talk
I don’t think theres so much wrong with the training, I mean it’s not rocket science. No, the real game changer would be to raise the bar substantially enough in the tests to lower the pass rate to a point that the type who are most likely to kill themselves never get the opportunity. I’d like to know what the general pass rate is at colleges. I’d also like to know what percentage of those have been observed by the trainers and assessors as just not having what it takes. -

Steve Bullman replied to Thesnarlingbadger's topic in Climbers talk
I dont climb anymore bit if I did I most certainly wouldn’t be using 2 ropes. Couldn’t care less if the hse are watching either, it’s one of the most ludicrous things ever bought in and will undoubtedly result in a death somewhere along the way. I don’t know of any other climbers who I talk with that are using 2 ropes either- 176 replies
