  1. ok just to add....im not saying its not worth knowing this technique, cos ya never know!
  2. thats a pointless technique IMO, meant for small trees where there isnt room to stick a wedge in and still cut without the wedge interfering with your chain. if a tree is small enough that you can get a wedge in using conventional methods then i really cant see a case for the wedge at all, a simple push over will do fine
  3. thats all ive ever called it too leon......and ive seen the release cut done many different ways....i sometimes go horizontal or at an angle, ive never experienced anything thats swayed me towards one or the other.
  4. welcome canuck! 1-2 a month is good going!

  7. not sure on the variety to be honest tony....didnt notice anything different about it so id assume it would be a common variety
  8. and how exactly does that benifit you?
  9. love mine, been using them since they came out. its the best current solution for leg mounting in my opinion
  10. thats a good question which i probably should have asked!
  11. its on a very acidic soil up there....i think its definetly worth exploring
  12. haha, wouldnt normally be reducing a tree with a hedge trimmer!! this ones a regular trim job and fits in well with the grounds as it is
  13. Customer wanted an opinion on 2 catalpas today. no visible signs of fungus on either tree, both growing on open lawn, both trees looking generally unwell and shedding plenty of foliage. i diagnosed a possible mineral defficency and recommended soil feeding. anyone have any opinions on this?

  16. thats what it was supposed to look like carl! and yes ed in fact there is one there haha the bottom needs shaping ideally, i wasnt happy with the uneveness of it but was told just to cut what we could with a hedgecutter.
  17. good points peter, specially the last one. i saw the arb trucks at the AA that had chip boxes and platforms....they looked very nice but all truck body builders seem to forget the more junk you stick on a chassis the less payload you end up with. best off a tool for each job
  18. smoked slamon and chicken salad
  19. I just hear about this show today http://www.forestryandtimber.org/html/news/swws.html anyone planning on heading down?
  20. i'd imagine a pole rescue would be quite a challenge, particularly for a student
  21. I thought it might be helpful for people taking their aerial rescue if we discuss the assessment and criteria. Its been a few years since i did mine and i forget whats require(plus its all probably changed by now) When i did mine we did 2 rescues....one aided, one unaided. the guy i was working with today mentioned theres a pole rescue included now also. maybe someone can confirm this and we can discuss the various techniques from there.
