  1. Thanks. The wood itself is going to be pretty dark anyway so I don’t think the actual colour the oil leaves is going to be an issue, more the finish it leaves.
  2. Been researching this online and there’s a million different ways. Looking for advice on the best process for finishing elm, ie what sandpaper’s to use, and the best oil, wax or lacquer to apply. This will be for a console table and a coffee table so will be reasonably well used. thanks
  3. Yeah well done, didn’t think about that
  4. Last time I had to make Simona a 2 level cake stand I stick the dowels into one piece, stuck a few dabs of paint on the other end of the dowel that placed it onto the other piece of wood to mark where I needed to drill the holes. very crude, but worked for me and meant I didn’t have to get a measuring tape out 😀
  5. I have a drill and a circular saw I just purchase today. The dowel option was what I was hoping would be strong enough. I can just about manage that. Recommendations on glue?
  6. As title, what’s the easiest way for a complete novice with minimal tools to join 2 boards together for a simple coffee table please
  7. I think it’s right, it’s just the fact that it’s not loaded correctly that it’s acting that way. Once on your harness it will behave completely different
  8. I’m not overly averse to them to be honest
  9. Well done! just be careful with that ISC pulley. Seem to recall someone recently saying never to buy their stuff somewhere or other… oh, just found it here
  10. Yeah there’s a couple nearby that I’ve used before. If I can find a design I like that’s the route I may well go
  11. I’m not much of a craftsman, but screwing some ready made legs onto a plank of wood that I have sanded down on the cheap, that I can manage. I agree some of them don’t look great though
  12. Not sure I’d risk Etsy
  13. Good shout. I did think about trying barking forge if I couldn’t find an off the shelf solution
  14. I have a nice elm plank I’d like to make into a console table. Anyone got a recommendation for a recent supplier that has a range of legs to choose from?

It could be tipped on the drive way only. Getting it to the back garden would be your responsibility
  20. Used to have squash racket tape on my 880
  21. That’s too much. I can stomach it these days as I work from home, but when I was on the tools it was a killer coming home to that
  22. 18. Constant battle between me and my partner though, each time one of us walks past the thermostat we change it 😀
  23. Up till now I’ve just relied on people removing their own listing, or users reporting sites that aren’t accepting any. Have had very few complaints so far. time, unlikely to be this side of Christmas. It’s a complete site upgrade with the tip site directory being an important, but small part of
  24. I’m actually in the middle of a lot of upgrades to the directory. Soon each category of tip site will have its own unique map marker and key so people browsing will see immediately what sites pay without having to click through to the listing. These will obviously get the first clicks if they are close enough. with regards how much sites are used. There are a vast amount of sites with different requirements. Some are simple homeowners who can only make use of one load a year, whereas others might be able to take an unlimited amount. In other words its dynamic. There’s new sites added daily and existing sites no longer in need of chips.
