  1. Yes that’s right. Pretty sure anything from China is subject to customs fees though?
  2. We’re going to the zoo on the 13th
  3. Our customs fees dont seem to have changed
  4. We do. It’s the shipping charges that have gone through the roof and I don’t think it’s because of brexit
  5. Anyone have any information on this please? I heard something briefly mentioned in the budget but am after more information
  6. It is just a other expense, but EL is quite a big one of you literally only use someone a couple of times a year. @Paul Tomo I think the only way to get round not having EL on those rare jobs would be for your subby to invoice the client directly in addition to supplying their own tools, even then I’m not 100% sure if that’s a foolproof loophole
  7. Yep this. we used to hire traffic lights ourselves years ago, this was when things were a bit more lax. It was always a hassle. Best way by far is just getting a TM company in. that being said, a lot of them can be a pain in the backside also so it’s worth doing your research in the companies in your area.
  8. I believe @Big J will be your man for this!
  9. In our case it’s not strictly a foreign holiday. My girlfriends from Italy and we are very keen for them to see their 13 month old grand daughter who they have so far only spent 1 week with. aside from that I agree in general with forgoing foreign holidays. 1 year or 2 won’t kill most people
  10. We were thinking of going to Cornwall in June before the schools break. Even then I reckon it might be swamped so having second thoughts. I’d be quite happy to stay home but the missus is bored stupid and just wants to get away. Italy was on the cards for June but that’s looking increasingly unlikely
  11. Sounds like you are a hobby/part time user? In which case they will probably do you. They don't cut like a Stihl chain.
  12. exactly, its the number of votes. This system is only active in the homeowners section and means the first answer they see will be the best one, providing members don't abuse it by voting up their mates posts.
  13. No. it’s really not that confusing, most applicable answer should be the first reply
  14. We are pleased to announce Green Plant UK Ltd as the mainland UK Distributor of the LF750 Lifter and LF1000 Lifter from engineering innovators Dragon Equipment. Built entirely in the UK, the versatile and compact sister machines are designed to make transporting materials around site quicker, easier and safer - whether moving logs, bags of sand or pallets of slabs. Jeremy Smithers, Business Development Manager at Green Plant UK, said: “We are really pleased to be the mainland UK distributor for Dragon Equipment’s Lifters. We love the versatility of the machines and they really complement our portfolio of products.” The LF750 is capable of lifting up to 750kg, whereas it’s wider counterpart the LF1000 can transport up to 1,000kg. Both machines are available with the Vanguard© 400, 14HP petrol engine from Briggs & Stratton or the Hatz 1B50 Diesel engine, they are also available as a Hybrid machine. The lifting arm can quickly and easily have additional attachments added, such as a log grab or post hole borer etc. - with new attachments coming soon. Regardless of which attachment is being used, the simple, universal and robust controls make the machine easy to master. The machines are built with safety at the forefront of the design, both machines have a front stability foot, which doubles-up as a load stabiliser when tracking. They also both have a raised platform for the operator to stand on to ensure optimum operating visibility. All terrain tracks allow the Dragon Lifters to be used in all conditions on any building site or home-based project. For ease of transport both machines weigh under 630kg, and will fit in most trailers or vans. The LF750 is just 700mm wide so will fit through a standard doorway, even the LF1000 at just 840mm wide is perfect for jobs where access is narrow or restricted. 15. Reflecting the growth in the company and scope of the projects undertaken, Maidstone-based Day Tree Fellers have just purchased their 4th GreenMech woodchipper – going from the pedestrian CS100 unit up to the mighty 45hp EVO 165D-45LE unit in the space of just six years! Delivering powerful, yet surprisingly quiet, performance the EVO 165D-45LE hasn’t missed a beat since Owner Les Day took delivery of the unit in December 2020. Les, along with one of his sons, started Day Tree Fellers in 2015 before another two sons came on board to complete the current line-up. “When we first started out, we looked at a couple of different chipper manufacturers and were instantly impressed by GreenMech’s willingness to help and their general service level” explains Les. “At the time we went for the 4” CS100 pedestrian unit, and quickly followed that up with two turntable QuadChip 160’s.” As the nature of their work evolved to span both domestic and commercial projects, it became evident that they needed even more productivity and the ability to process even larger timber. “What the EVO 165D-45LE lacks by way of a turntable, it more than makes up for in other areas! It works so quickly offering fantastic throughput rates but I particularly like that you can manually slow the feed rollers down to process any particularly large diameter timbers. The higher horsepower Kubota diesel engine handles this with ease and will hopefully give us years of reliable service.” “Along with the No-Stress control system, another thing that’s impressed me is how quiet this machine is which is excellent, particularly for work in domestic areas.” As standard, the entire EVO range features an all-steel bonnet and additional fan to help reduce overall sound power and sound pressure. This, combined with GreenMech’s disc-blade chipping system, means the EVO is one of the quietest chipper collections available. “It’s also been great that the experience we’ve had with GreenMech and their dealer network throughout the latest purchase was just as good as we enjoyed all those years ago - the factory were even able to accommodate fitting my machine with a bespoke folding output chute to suit my available storage. Nothing is too much trouble and it’s that level of service, and the reliable performance, that keeps me coming back every time.”
  16. possibly feasible if its poplar, that stuff soaks up the moisture if not stored properly?
  17. Did you know they were considering putting a pto on the tree prior to you damaging it?
  18. So long as the bore cut and hinge are correct I’ve never been convinced that the method of release makes much difference at all! Much like cranework, all the fancy cuts in the world make no difference if the slings aren’t set perfect
  19. The funky ideas which seem great at the time you usually end up feeling embarrassed about 12 months down the line, in my experience anyway
  20. You can buy pretty large beech trees. Google ‘standards’. They will however cost you a small fortune and require a lot of maintenance in the first few years to establish, if they do at all. Whereas a smaller tree will establish much more quickly, require less maintenance, and in some cases even reach the height of a standard in the time it takes a standard to establish itself. ever seen big trees planted at the likes of a Tesco new build that have died a few years later?
