I hope your talking about the shredder being a good tool!!

 

With regards to the bearing thread , having seen so many customers with all differing manufacturers of woodchippers, coming through the doors. I would always advocate taking your machine to a manufacturer trained technician.

These machines can we worked very hard and there are some customers who think that they should NOT have to mantain it and that it SHOULD work in any and all situation.

Most , if not all machines require regular maintenance and in the case of the bearings, if it is ot done correctly ,could fail again in a matter of days, weeks or months at further cost.

To be fair Baz, some of these machines need to be out again next morning, unforseen breakdown can cost dearly and we dont always have the luxury of being able to "nip" it into the dealers.

 

Orange plant do offer an excellent service, friendly advice and very quick parts supply they do know their stuff, I spoke to john at length over the phone and he is a very skilled engineer, I know he knows his stuff.

 

I would have no quarms whatsoever about sending things into you, however, you only have to read my toyota thread to understand why I only do things myself and people who know me entrust their equipment to me

 

If you have no engineering or mechanical background I would echo what Baz says, lining up and shimming bearings can be a complex procedure and I have 30 years experience doing such things, I have every tool known to man as anyone on here who has been to my house will verify, down to micrometer depth guages for measuring and surface grinders to take a couple of thou off shims

 

If you dont have the bearing pullers and measuring equipment then this job is more or less impossible for the leyman to do, that should be made clear.

 

This thread was not only to show how to do the bearings it was intended to show how complex the job really was and it's not as simple a job as people think :001_smile:
