It's got to be worth a look. A big part of quoting jobs is learning to read the customer. There are usually warning signs if they are going to be difficult about job specs/payment.

I always laugh when people say "do me a cheap price as I have lots of work for you". As if you're really looking for lots of cheap work 🙄

Might just be somebody utterly fed up dealing with cowboys all the time.

If you're not on your guard nowadays there's no scarcity of people out there just looking to shamelessly empty your pockets.

Yes they might be cheapskates, equally they may just be looking someone to do their work decently at a fair price with a minimum of hassle.

If you're the type of person they're trying to avoid then don't go near them. If you're the type of person they might just be looking for then give it a go.

Quite!

Price low early and they're likely to expect comparable rates later.

"Gee, really, you've got lots more crappy jobs you want done at budget rates? Where do I sign??"

Genuine long term contacts get fringe benefits like site visits, LA liaison / correspondence, TPO apps etc as a "no cost" fringe benefit.

The benefits come AFTER a customer / supplier relationship has been established, not before.

And if it sounds like a PITA, estimate is free, site visit / quote carries a time / travel cost.

There's a CIC nearby that are constantly chasing various sources of grant funding. Did a comprehensive quote for them last year. They needed it as supporting documentation for grant application. They didn't get that funding but found another source to try and tickle recently. Can we have another site visit & quote.... yes it'll be £x per hour and £y travel, when would you like to meet?

Tumbleweed!

Price it as normal ignore the "we have more work if you give us a good price" its the oldest bull in the book, as next time they want something doing they will try the same on someone else, if it looks like a pia, prices high and if it goes ahead you have some compo for the hassle and if it doesnt your no worse off, wait til people ask for a price on mowing a lawn and then tell you £20 is to much! 🙄😁
