If they were to do the manufacturing of these in the UK, as opposed to the far east, where would the raw materials have to come from? (considering our reduced amount of steel making facilities, and the economics of increasing domestic extraction

🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

You’ve answered part of your own question for starters. Extraction of ??

So, assuming the economics of extracting domestic raw materials (and tighter environmental laws etc) makes that a non starter (why the mines etc closed?) where would the raw materials for UK manufacturing of this kind of equipment come from?

Or would we import the steel that's been manufactured elsewhere?(as domestic production of raw steel also appears to be too expensive).

It's not great that we import all of this stuff, and it would be fantastic if we still had enough of the skills, resources and facilities to do it,  but from what I understand they've been let go and without the raw materials it probably makes more sense on time, financial and environmental levels to have them built elsewhere.

If you're happy to just quit then stop whining about it all the time.

The figures are out there, very easy to find and substantially higher than the numbers you quoted, mind you they come at an astronomical cost to UK households and businesses. There is often a disparity between production and consumption mind. You ever take a break from being a condescending prick 42 ??,  somewhat like the office blagger you seem to think relentlessly misspelling people’s names or ridiculing an information source is an effective way to put your point over.
Strange behaviour from someone who is obviously not stupid. How’s the rat/bin situation by the way.

If you establish yourself as the site fool-cum-lunatic you're bound to attract a certain amount of ridicule.

So if you think China is a piss poor example, then which country would you choose for it's commitment to renewable energy sources? Bhutan is 100%, and they don't have trains, which you'd like, but they're obviously a special case so you're not allowed to pick them.

at least a lot of the composite blades for wind turbines are made in UK

That manufacturing base is being built up steadily, shame it’s taken so long, approx 11500 turbines up around the uk most with 3 blades. UK supply is roughly 10% but on the up.

Reference my earlier comment. I rest my case 👍
As I’ve said a few times I’ll skip your question after question after question after question show, the answers are never enough and you lie when all else fails so no thanks.

however, even though the Our World In Data checks out - agreeing with johnsond's search screenshot figure of 50.8% UK electricity from renewables (in that year) BOTH sources are wrong. Why? Because they include biomass in renewables. What a con that is. Can't see how we get 7% credit to our renewables target for shipping in wood and burning it. Burning trees is an impatient way of burning oil - both release carbon dioxide to form an insulating layer in the upper atmosphere.

  • Carbon Payback Period:
It takes a long time for new trees to grow and reabsorb the carbon emitted from burning older trees. This means that burning biomass can contribute to warming for decades or even centuries before a "payback" occurs.

Yeah, large-scale Biomass is BS. We're all agreed. "Impatient coal burning" - nice! Especially using fuel that's been shipped in from the other side of the world to be burnt. Makes more sense to bury local stuff in the ground, as silly as that sounds.

Biomass is just a way for dumb politicians to appear to be doing something, without actually doing anything to upset the apple cart.

The whole renewables game is a cash cow for predominantly foreign based companies, I agree with the biomass comment, I’ve mentioned it on more than one occasion.

It undoubtedly is a cash cow for some foreign based companies, (because we've allowed them to take advantage), but it also serves a critical purpose. How else is the world going to reduce CO2 emissions without substituting renewable for fossil fuel energy sources?
