Trump calls emergence of DeepSeek a ‘wake-up call’ amid doubts about sustainability of western artificial intelligence boom

You've got to laugh... All that imaginary money - gone.....

All money is imaginary I guess, I take your point though.

What with the electric cars that China are producing cheaper than the west, and now this, 2025 could be the year the balance of power flips.

What kind of idiot would buy something made in China?

There's definitely some decent products coming out of China these days. I've got a couple of hand built acoustic guitars here that are every bit as good as anything that you'll find anywhere. Chinese products are not all rubbish, you've just got to do some research first I suppose.

I think if you really made a conscious effort now to NOT buy anything made in China you would struggle to just live your life, never mind run a business.

You’re spot on Spindrift, I’m sat in front of my Chinese diesel heater in the workshop at the minute and it’s bloody brilliant!

Shame it has come to this, like.

I think that the idea that China only makes shit is a couple of decades out of date now. Sure, they do make masses of shit tat, but only because they can get away with it, because we are stupid enough to buy it from them. (As do their domestic middle class consumers.)

They can also make some proper high end quality stuff as well when they want to. Just look at mobile phones and other electronic wizardry, renewable energy infrastructure, and now AI. They're already world leaders in the first two markets, and probably the third this year as well I expect. There's no turning back the tide now I'd suggest.

I was listening to some guy last night talking about economic growth. He was saying that it comes mainly from technological progress, and that comes from scientific innovation and creativity. Not from things like building houses, airports and other infrastructure projects.

If Rachel Reeves does want to stimulate growth she should be looking to boost the intangibles like ideas and innovation, technological progress. Like China is doing. They've almost gone off the scale in the last 15 years.

China’s patent applications have grown rapidly in recent decades, as shown in the chart. Chinese applications surpassed US...

There is the separate argument to be had about whether we do actually need economic growth.

Labour the part of the working man 🤔my arse. The hand of digital Blair !!. I saw someone with a very left leaning bias mentioning project 2025, I’d say the 2030 one often  branded as conspiracy madness  is more likely.
