They were talking of repaying early and getting out entirely again especially if the eurozone goes into recession.

 

Granted it's the same wherever you are, but having a currency exchange rate for every country always helped.

Let’s be straight about it, no amount of cartoons can disguise the reality that Brexit was a mistake.

 

I was marginally for it, now have to concede it was a massive error.

 

What’s done is done, no going back, but what a clanger got dropped that day.

Question, were you expecting immediate benefits, or benefits for the country maybe 20 years down the line?

I wasn’t expecting immediate benefits, I was expecting it to be a bit less of a series of cockups and loss of freedoms than its proven to be.

I guess as someone who doesn’t live abroad or has any intention of doing so I don’t feel any loss of freedom whatsoever, I can imagine that’s maybe different for you though.

 

as for anything else, theres too much going on in the world at the moment to start blaming things squarely on brexit

The error was in the incessant EU expansionism which is the real reason and which has brought us inexorably to the current Russian invasion of Ukraine.

 

I rather doubt any sensible observer of world events would deny the benefit of the original EEC concept.  

 

The EU however has been the architect of its own demise - the UK being bold enough to take the first step in the divorce, set the standard for others to follow and get ahead of the inevitable breakdown which will likely make the current relatively minor hiccups of leaving the EU pale into insignificance.
