The UK is beyond doubt a rip off. Its eye wateringly expensive for those that contribute the most and they/we get so little recognition or anything back. We're just told we need to shoulder more and more as we're clearly earning too much.

Hopefully you'll no get your pants pulled down in Sweden and get disillusioned to quickly. I thought Norway was utopia for the first 3 years then reality set in.

I know that the tax burden is very high in Sweden. I'm not pretending it'll be anything other than that and I'm sure it'll still bite  😄

But, having a mortgage free house and limitless work, alongside much improved (for us) freetime activities will take the sting out of it.

Everyone has to prioritise what's important to them, and for us it's not money. Maybe we'd eventually make more money here, but at what cost?

So you'll be considered an elite snob as soon as you arrive then? I assume you've read up on Jantes's Law?

I am of course playing devils advocate. I cant see me staying in Scotland for more than 10 years. I doubt the UK either, so maybe its the EU or back to Norway to live out my dotage. :D If I continue to work in Norway and keep earning what I do at 62 my Norwegian State Pension will be about £32k a year and at 67 its £50k a year. Leaves a lot of options open for me. But Im loathed to pay tax in a country that is now openly enabling smack heads. Im literally done.

I think that property ownership is pretty common in rural areas even amongst those of modest means. Not to say that there aren't rental properties, but they are far harder to find. Why would you bother spending £8k a year on a house in rent when you can buy it for £60-80k?

I wouldn't blame you for leaving Scotland. The lockdown trashing of the countryside has underlined how a significant minority of the country are ruining if for the rest of you. Of course we get litter down here too, but it's not in the same league as what we used to see in Scotland. It's a shame, because so much of Scotland is so pretty.

That's quite a broad spectrum. Could you define that? In all honestly you've just described what I imagine Labour would consider a VW Golf and a Toothbrush.

Hardly. The point is having a tax that can be levied at the point of production or entry into the country and paid by all so companies do not benefit from reclaiming it, as is VAT on most cars now.

So care you define what you’re actually talking about? So far I’ve just seen political mumbo jumbo.

“Tax cars and personal good!” “ that will show the rich!”

In case you have not noticed that’s already happening.

I have made no political comment, I did not say what you have put in quotation marks.

As we are bound to have tax I suggested a tax which was less easy for the very rich to be able to avoid paying in the way they currently do

So how does taxing cars and personal goods come into it then? That is what you suggested? Right?

You do know they are already taxed right?

That’s you down to a tee Mark. A soap dodging tax dodger like you admit to be. Seems like you’d do anything and everything to avoid paying tax so getting sucked off by a zBmw driver would make your day
