Without seeing a mature leaf I think Robinia is a good shout. Young growth has the pea like look of Robinia. (Magnolia would be well in leaf by now and leaves are too small.)

 

Unlikely, forms all wrong, it's a gleditsia, the one near me has thorns on the bark which is the only box not ticked, but I think older trees lose that lower down.

I'm off to walk the dog in a minute, I'll grab an iPhone pic of it.

True ,Gleditsia lose thorns when they mature and Sunburst isn't particularly thorny anyway .
