I used to fit our farmi in a 20ft container folded down. Great machine for the money. We put probably about 1000 cube through ours and quite a lot of big 300- 400mm stuff through it and it didn't miss a beat. With the road tow kit it's so easy to move around as well. Would highly recommend it.

Time how long it takes to process 10m3 from when you leave your house until when you go back in.

Factor in your time to load and deliver this quantity on average plus transport overheads and any other costs directly attributable to Firewood production.

Few institutions offer finance without a business plan and costings for good reason - you need to do the same to assess if it is actually viable to retail Firewood. You may find you are actually working for < £ 5/hr

It is very difficult to make a worthwhile return producing Firewood from Arb. arisings.

Very often it is far better to give all the on site arisings to a producer who will take the timber away for free saving you a stack of time, humping and dumping fuel / wear and tear etc.

Do the costings, as you may find you are actually 'flogging a dead horse'.

I did the analysis and found that it was only worth doing Arb. timber if you could pay some £5 / hr and those days are gone.

I'd invest more in the Tree Surgery business to improve its efficiency and focus 100% on that.

Several on the forum will agree, and others will not.

Good luck :thumbup1:

Split to billets where possible and get a saw bench. Less mess than chainsaw and splitter.

I cant be arsed with billets although current splitter can split 26-28" i think.

I do like the look of the balfor sc750 sawbench.

Might feel a cop out to buy one instead of a processor but my timber varies so much and quite a bit of 12" plus leads me

To think a sawbench and pto splitter would be the way forwards

There is a lot of truth here, IMO :thumbup1:

Why not just get a contractor in with a processor every now and then?

No capital tied up, no maintenance, insurance, breakdowns, storage.

Spent yesterday processing the worst rubbish you ever did see. Logged everything down to 1 1/2". It's cost them £311 inc vat and travel (an hour each way). The client laboured for me so need to cost a helper for the day £80-£100. I left them with a conservative 10 cube of logs. With a retail for between £800- £1000 when dry and delivered there should be a nice little earner there for you. With decent rings and some chunky wood can turn out appreciably more than 10 cube in the day.

A couple of pictures. The finished piles got bigger as this was halfway through the afternoon.
