An interesting idea, but I can't help thinking that the charred wood might not hold the metal in place very well.

A craftsman near me fills cracks with brass, but he does it with powdered metal in resin.

If you visit YouTube, you can find videos of aluminium being poured into ants' nests to make casts of all the chambers and galleries. A bit off-topic, but I find it addictive.

nice effect.

you might want to try putah as i think it has a lower melting point so you should get less charring.

i know quite a few turners who play around with putah for filling cracks.

OP, I like it. Can you get longer veins of metal running with the cracks?

Iv'e been collecting pewter just to try this, but haven't got round to it yet

Still toying with the idea of stabilising wood using cactus juice but it's so expensive

Urban Dictionary: Putah (Pootah))

Oh dear, I think I would use Pewter instead :laugh1::laugh1::laugh1:

oh dear, how embarrassing.

i knew something wasn't quite right about that but when spell check didn't come up i did nothing about it. not a word i've really used before.

blaisey, try pewter not putah.

aluminium melts at 660c and pewter only 230c.
