They're Back.......Barn Swallows

Last night out the back of the house......that familiiar screeching.

 

 

They are back...

Not seen them for years, ever since we stopped Farming Pigs everything packed up and went ..Swallows, Owls,Collard Doves, Starlings,Rats ,mice and Cockroach's...The pigs were the main Food chain for above .

Saw a house Martin/Swallow about the front door on Mon 4th April at 06:15, still near dark too (dark enough I first thought Bat) , but def a Swallow or House Martin.

 

They might just have cause to regret their early arrival with our current weekend forecast!

I was much the same....I thought bat first then they started chattering/screeching.

I doubt it! I saw one in March last year on a phone wire at Dormansland. Poor creature didn't stand a chance.

Boss says he's seen a pair of Kestrels 'hanging around' our indoor horse arena....

 

I've not seen them yet, but who knows, we may have them nesting shortly...

I had sight of our first 31st of march just flitting about at dusk couldn't believe my eyes as they usually arrive 12th-14th of april religiously however I have not seen it again think its gone down to lower ground for a while.

Love to see them I feel summers on its way when they arrive.

Theres a pair keep hookin up on the roof of the barn in the yard next door to us. Not sure where the nest is, but be great to have some young uns around.

 

We've had swallows/house martins sticking bits of mud high on a painted gable for years, but never built a nest. Are they that clever to test the glue out for a few years before they nest?

Swallows nest inside your barns, Martins under eaves and gables outside.

Once you know the difference they're easy to distinguish.
