locating underground openreach services

Does anyone know of a free way to get maps of underground bt/openreach services. We have a job coming up where we need to identify where cables run from an underground junction box. Im slightly nervous that there maybe fibre optic in the area. The architect is digging in and saying they cant provide utilities maps and im wary about the fact we will be digging within 12inchs of the junction box.

I have just been through their online system and there is an annual subscription to pay which tbh I could do without.

Slightly wary as the CAT wont pick up fibre that may be run down the road verge

Anything like BT duct or underground drains can be detected with a tracer cable using a Cat and Genny. Buy a cheap roll of electrical cable and push it up the ductwork with some drain rods, attach the genny signal wire to the tracer cable and you will be able to follow it along with the scanner.

can also use use a cat with a genny and signal clamp ( box with a clamp that goes around the bt wire and puts a signal on it) to detect bt fibre optic cable as it has the copper wire for phone in one cable with the fibre. Or can go with cat and just a genny by putting genny on a BT box and tracing the signal back along cable , but this method isnt as good as using a clamp.

If they are anything like virgins adsl cables they could be really shallow as well. On our street tree planting you will often find virgin cables at 50mm ffs!

yeah, I found one just under the surface when renewing our fence at the bottom of the garden, no idea what it was so just kinda brushed it aside and cracked on. wife went tits cause she missed bake off.
