Who offers a 'cooling off' period?

I'm fairly certain that it's a 14 day cooling off period for our trade, upped from 7 recently. If you dont then the contract is not legally binding. I appreciate often we dont give t&c's etc. and just give a price and a start date.

i offer a cooling off period on all my quotes after seeking advice form solicitor, as if you get a customer who knows the law they can refuse to pay and there wont be much you can do about it, if there was not a 7 day cooling off period from accepting the quote and getting the work done . Even if a customer telephones you and asks you round for a quote it is still classed under the doorstep trading regulations.

Written quotes is your mistake, verbal quote and a handshake, if things go wrong it wasn't you :biggrin:

Isn't the cooling off period in effect right up to the day you do the work.

If they cancel between quote and job its not really worth worrying about.

As long as you have some 'drop-in anytime' jobs to fill in the day I just recon I'm better off without working for people who operate like that.

good thread looks like i need to change to from 7days to 14days , you can do work in the cooling off period as long as the customer understands that they are losing there right to cancel by having the work done in the cooling off period, best to get in writing (email counts)
