Just do it - loads of guys on here must have modded their spots over the years.

I suspect the H&S issue would be that the removal/folding down would need to require tools rather than just a spring bolt or the likes. I know theres loads of detail on the Interweb about the regs.

I recon some sort of hinge with an internal step-down (to prevent crud cattching in the join) and a nut/bolt to hold it (could be replaced by a spring clip or R clip if you must) and away you go.

Probably worth talking to an engineering bod to get the geometry right but it shouldn't be an issue (till it falls off and kills the local council rep).

Well most of that is completely inaccurate and you haven't even touched on the pertinent parts

The main issue with modifying the machine is going to be one of PUWER, if its your machine you do it at your risk, if you have staff its a different situation all together

In essence a folding in feed isn't an issue (there are many machines out there with fold out configuration) but the issue is going to be getting it signed off as fit for purpose

Realy to make it anywhere near compliant you will need some kind of micro switch fitted to either kill or prevent the engine from starting when the chute is folded down to prevent contact with spinning parts as my old quadchip had.

Good point Will, but he is referring to the other chute. We used to make a model called 1523 which had a the e.rear half of the in feed that folded upwards for transportation and stowag

jose how long have you been taking the chute off for storage?

i have to unbolt my chipper chute every day morning and night and since i do it so often, it now only takes 2min, got a greenmech and had timberwolf in past with no problems.

I think people are confusing the discharge "chute" with the in feed "hopper", I think the OP is talking about removing the in feed hopper daily, but I could be wrong???:confused1:
