Question for all you freelancers... rigging kits

That's what I'd say but unfortunately to many people would view it as not there problem and your kit you sort it.

A company I worked for a while ago was like that, and if I damaged anything on a job, it was me who had to sort it out in my own time. So I stopped using my own kit and was told not to come in anymore.

I'm happy to use my kit or let others use it but I would like to think the company I'm working for would cough up the dough if someone else broke my chainsaws or other kit.

If YOU damage your own kit on someone else's job, I would say that is your responsibility to sort it in your own time. Its when OTHERS damage your gear that they should sort it, IMO.

When I work for other companies I normally turn up with everything as I don't normally know what I'll be doing. Even basic signage.

Most of the time they'll send a groundsman and second climber, but no rigging kit. Not because they're duff companies but when they've got 10 or more teams out, others might know they need kits/bits are dispersed/the away teams have the kits ect

The bosses then don't need to worry when they hire me, there's no "can't do it because..."

I might see a way of getting the job done more efficiently with extra kit i.e. Speed line etc

If you want to charge a premium, you've got to provide everything imo

I would agree, you're a solutions person, not a problems person.

Sorry I'm saying if someone else damaged your kit. But I wasn't even sub contracting back then and still had to provide all my own kit.

I think a heavy duty rigging kit is a good investment. Light duty, you'll always be limited to moderate loads and a lot more climbing around. Obviously you have to moderate the size of what you send down depending on the drop zone and the ground workers ability to cope.

In regards to bringing a GRCS or simply expensive equipment. That's a tough one if it gets damaged....I've often pondered it. Say, if the groundworker either over or under wraps the line....the line breaks or simply runs out if control and the clog hits the device. Whose fault is it ? The groundworkers or the climbers for bad planning or expecting too much. Can you really put 'blame' on a groundworker for lacking experience....or panicking in a moment. It's debatable in my thinking. If I had a GRCS and was still subbing, I think I'd leave it at home.

This is true. Was my second job in the industry and I was much happier once I left and realised not everyone was as bad as him

We've all been there (well at least I know I have) main thing is you have moved on, we tend to learn more from our mistakes than we do from the things we ace :thumbup1:
